Since the welds on my old, poorly repaired front bumper brackets failed, I ordered new ones and took off what remained of the old bumper brackets.
I had to the loosen the bolts on the bracket components to get them to fit on the frame---there must have been a collision in her past---and now one bracket sits deeper than the other. I have been able to adjust the geometry, so the brackets are the same elevation, but one bracket still sits deeper than the other so I need to make a spacer in order to bolt on the bumper.
I'm thinking I can salvage a straight spacer by hacksawing it off one of the old brackets...but how long of a piece? I'm guessing 1"-2" at most?
My next move is to make a wooden bumper out of a 2x4, loosen up the bracket geometry and square it up, then tighten the bracket bolts and measure the distance needed for the spacer before attacking one of the old brackets with a hacksaw.

Does this make any sense? Any recommendations or guidance?

I should add that I want to get this challenge addressed before sending the real bumper in to get replated.
Driving around with a 2x4 for a bumper would be too undignified, LOL!

4/4 ... that sounds like a sensible plan .... as there seem to be differences between one side and the other, particularly on older cars, it will enable you to adjust it til it 'looks right' (which is what counts) ... if the 2x4 was ash you'd be fine leaving it! 😀

I just used the existing mounts and added a spacer to clear the badge bar.
