It's driving me nuts with temptation ..

If spares wasn't an issue I think I would, but the worry would prevent any enjoyment as factory assistance seems non existent for Aero chassis and Scifab out of business.

They look great but aren't that much fun to drive. I was talking at some length with an owner of a Speedster and despite the slightly higher single piece screen he had fabricated, they have to wear helmets all the time. Thrown up stones and insect hits to the face were a regular occurrence and no fun. I just don't see the point if a full face helmet is ' de rigor' when driving one.

You may recall awhile back there was a green one floating around, up for sale in London.

It was very low miles, more than likely for the reasons stated above, and after being for sale for nearly a year, the price was down to a level where it became attractive (cheaper than a standard Plus 8).

At the time I looked into the cost of fitting a proper screen and a hood (which meant modifications to the rear deck), as well as side screens... needless to say, even having the work done by knowledgeable independent people with parts supplied by the factory, it was cost prohibitive (rear eye watering!).

As someone who runs the Mog on aero screens as often as possible and an open face on the bike, I'd say go for it. Crash helmets are for Jessies. smile

Decent pair of bike sunglasses is all you need - insects and stones are all part of the experience.

I believe the BMW engine has a camshaft sensor problem, I know there has been a V8 in Lifes for ages , that is/has gone back to the factory after BMW engineers couldn't fix it.

Thank you all for the highly valued feedback, much food for thought and I'll admit I thought the power train would be bombproof but the suspension bits and bobs do seem to be fragile and unobtainable which would worry me too much if I'm honest.

That is interesting John; do you know more?

As the Plus 8 uses the BMW 4.8 V8, I'm surprised that BMW engineers couldn't resolve it. Furthermore, as the engine is shared with not only legacy BMW products but also much of the Aero 8 line, it would impact other vehicles.

It was a fleeting discussion ,from memory it's possibly and I could have misheard is something to do with a too soft a metal used in eg the camshaft followers/assembly or what ever and through wear is causing the sensors to misread. I'm sure its a known problem on the BMW forums across a range of engines. It was leading to the engine management light to come on which is of course an MOT fail.
