I believe the BMW engine has a camshaft sensor problem, I know there has been a V8 in Lifes for ages , that is/has gone back to the factory after BMW engineers couldn't fix it. fwiw, Google search results often give a good idea of how common something is - if you can track the spread of flu by then number of searches, you can likely judge how often an engine problem arises. The N62 4.4 has a handful of threads on Reddit about the camshaft sensor failing & producing EML & code errors. It's a $70 part: changing it seems to fix the issue. There's one thread for the 4.8 engine. Given that the BMWs using the engines are 15-20 years old, that the engine in BMWs is likely to have much higher mileage with relatively infrequent servicing compared to a Morgan, that doesn't feel like a common problem for this 4.8 N62 - nor does it appear expensive to fix. Will Will, I suggest you speak to Matt at Lifes Motors and get it from the horses mouth as to what was the problem on the BMW V8 and how it was fixed.

The 4.4 and 4.8 cam sensor is quite well known as one of the weaknesses of that engine but to be realistic it does need to be in context?
I understood that it was a known fault but that this was mostly because those engines were actually pretty solid overall. Even more so when lightly stressed pulling an Aero at 1000kg's and not a loaded X5 and 2000kg's. It is not happening on a high percentage of them and when it occurs you just have a small repair issue not a total engine fail? Happy to be corrected?
If you want a shocker look for the Jag/Landy 2.0L IL4 wet cam belt issue or the same for the Peugeot (and a cast of ten others) 1.2L which is also a wet cam belt engine. If you don't keep a close eye on it and exactly the right oil/settings then expect to hear that lovely ping ping ping noise as the valves make jiggly with the pistons. Known for years and still in production. Ford ECOBoost 3cyl - same.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.
