After 9 years of faithful service from the Polo and 8 years from the Jaguar XE they are both going to be replaced by one more practical vehicle which will suit our requirements better: a VW Caddy.
We have chosen the top of the line model with a few extras: 4Motion AWD, ergonomic seats, Adaptive Cruise control, etc.
With this we will be easily able to transport a couple of bikes, transport the family on holidays, etc.
I am sorry to see the Jag go but it really was somewhat impractical for us, and if I want a fun drive there is always the Morgan

Why not, a sensible choice, have fun with the Caddy. I know your area, and luckily the Caddy is not too wide for the small winding roads to your summer house. Certainly a loyal companion for all your needs and it could lead to a renaissance of the increased use of the Morgan, a nice contrast.

I have had in the past two Caddys,
Nice cars with a lot of space, my problem was that the Caddy was only allowed to tow trailers with a maximum weight of 1500kg.

If you want to transport some bikes you I suspect you have chosen the "Maxi"?

No. The standard should be OK with one of the rear seats removed. The extra length of the Maxi would make it a bit tight for our garage. The standard is longer than the Polo and the Maxi is longer than the Jag and, obviously, significantly longer than the Polo.

I think that even with the standard length it will be necessary to move the car forward to open the rather large rear door. We did consider the double, side opening, rear doors but decided to stay with the lifting door.

Well the Jaguar XE R Sport AWD has gone. It was a car I really enjoyed but, a bit like Dr Who's Police Box in reverse it was bigger on the outside than the inside, and in a certain sense impractical for us.

€52K to €12K in 8 years but with only 44K km on the clock. Someone will get a bargain.

Cars are depreciating very fast at the moment. I have my Octavia for sale. It was $45,000 in 2015 and I have it advertised for $14,000 with no takers, a lot of scammers and a few test drivers but no-one actually wants to buy it. I don't want a trade in so the local dealer said they would pay $8,000 for it but a a private sale they said it should go for $14000 to $16,000. Two years ago they said it would have got $27,000. Unfortunately I needed it two years ago. I gave it to my son and bought a Mitsubishi PHEV but he now has a company car.

You Jag certainly sounds like a bargain with only 44K km on the clock, my Octavia has 152,000km on it. Like your Jag it was probably the most fun car I have owned with a roof and I would rather keep it than the Mitsubishi but i have been told you have the MGB for fun.

I assume all the dealers have good stock of news cars so second hand car prices have died.

A Caddy is perfect for loading and easy driving. A 4x4 makes perfect sense in the winter.

You're getting older and looking for practical things. As long as you have a Morgan in your garage, all is not lost.

I had two (Diesel) Caddy. Nice cars with a lot of space. On my second car it was possible to fold the second seat row. And the 5th door was nice as roof when I had to load something when it was raining.

I changed the model because the Caddy was not allowed to tow my trailer with the 4/4.
