I have a new set of Mintex M1144 available if you are interested, purchased them from Wolf for our Roadster, but never fitted them as we changed the car to a Plus Six.

I suspect the reason why Mintex state they do not have pads is because the M1144 pad is from their racing M -series ( ML B52) and the box states the material must not be used on a public highway.. no idea why though. I would have thought racing pads like these were better than the road version..

when I started this I was a bit confused now I'm totally confused and conflicted.

Mintex say they have nothing to fit, yet Wolf say 4 types will fit but looking at the part codes both sizes and prices seem to vary for the same code. M1144 for example mintex say they don't fit.But they are listed as fitting anything form minis to fords (but not Morgans except by Wolf). Prices range from £45 to almost £100

Greenstuff (not a great fan due to excessive dust in my experience) show a 2243 pad but with with at least 3 different shapes and sizes!

none of the usual suppliers ahem anything listing, Mervin R, Allen W or Brands Hatch

Surely racing pads have to work when the discs are very hot, and they don't work so well when cold. That's why racers always take it a bit easier for the first couple of laps until the brakes are up to temperature.

Road cars on the other hand spend most of their time with the brakes stone cold, and need their brakes to work at optimum efficiency straight from cold. The downside is that they don't work as well when the discs are really hot, which is why you get brake fade when going down alpine passes.

Green stuff is probably the best for us light brake types, you can feel them bite from quite a soft application and its progressive the harder you press with no surprises! You are right about the pad lip left on the outside edge, I just snap it off and sand back flat. Really odd that this happens, perhaps they did this on purpose in order to prevent lipping on the disc, probably appreciated how much we were paying for them

Gary, If its any help I have found that if it's a piston jamming then usually the wheel won't spin easily by hand as the piston doesn't back off. This situation will get worse as time passes until eventually the friction causes heat to the disc, The disc expands and ends up giving you a steering rattle that is really quite violent.

Yep, they work better when hot and brake fade is much reduced in the higher temp range. In the dark the disc's can be seen to glow red hot. Of course ceramic brakes are the next level up if such conditions are found! The mintex track rated pads are designed to perform better when hot and the temperature rating is better at reducing brake fade at these higher temperatures. As Hamwich has stated already they are labelled 'Not for road use' as at normal road temperatures they will not function efficiently enough, however this is a warning for the user and not illegal. I think Cain at Wolf has already explained that even the equivalent Mintex pad to the standard Caparo fitment that Morgan fit is also labelled that way as well.

Taken out one pad, still has 8mm wear on it and 4mm to bottom of groove so loads of life yet.

I'd still like to replace them but no idea what with - every link I follow looks different and most look different to these

Both Dave W and myself have done a full brake service and part numbers on here if you poke around a bit.

yep I've been poking around for some time and found this from Montegue about 6 months ago

"As per this thread and others on TM, the pad code for the Caparo calipers used on my 2012 registered Duratec Plus 4 is MLB52, so I went looking for a set of Mintex MLB52 pads in the M1144 fast road compound and discovered while I can still buy new/old stock Mintex actually discontinued M1144 at the end of last year. However, for Jan 2024 Mintex replaced M1144 with their new fast road compounds MRM1801 and MRM1802, here's what Mintex say about this change"


that's pretty much where I started but MLB52 isn't available any more according to Mintex and if they were then the replacement compound M1144 isn't certified for use in my application!
