Hi all
For a while i have been noting that the “ bite” on the clutch is getting higher on the pedal travel. Pretty much now its right at the top.
Last week had some slippage under load.
Have taken engine out and have got the clutch on the bench.
Clutch pad is 7.5 mm thick. Alt parts put new thickness at 8.2 mm? That doesnt seem like an unduly worn pad. Looks like plenty of meat on the unit too.
The clutch release bearing is spring loaded and is constant contact with the release fingers.
Does any one have any specific dimensions that i can check ie spring preload measure, height of release fingers compared to clutch body etc.
After consulting the interweb i understand that as the pad wears the release fingers get higher and thence move the release bearing back against the spring which raises the “bite” position on the pedal travel.
However this suggests my pad is too worn, or there is too much spring pressure, or diaphragm spring has lost its muscle??
Any thoughts ?
The clutch was a complete replacement unit ex Morgan in 2020.
The release bearing can be pushed back against the spring quite easily
If i get pad relined, what is max thickness can go to?

Have you bled the clutch system?

Clutch plate new is 8.2mm.
Used plates are normally changed around 7mm - 7.5mm thickness.
What colour is the fluid? Any black bits in it?
As PaulM3W has stated - did it bleed easily - the clutch nipple has to be undone a fair way to enable bleeding.

I have taken the clutch release bearing off completely and will be replacing. It doesnt appear to be faulty. No leaks, fluid ok with no bits but since its a faff to get to it seems logical to replace. Car done 40k km
Now believe slipping just due to wear, as plate is 7.2 mm.
1 mm wear allowance doesnt sound like much. Less than 4 years driving for me

Hi P964,
we already had some cracked diaphragma springs in the clutch cover. This did cause a slipping clutch as well.
So it`s worth to check the spring for a crack.
