Just had to scrap an old runabout car ... when the guy came with the truck we chatted a bit and, because they have the space not to stack cars , you can still turn up at their yard with your toolbox and overalls and ferret about for the bits you want ... he did say if they ever started stacking the insurance would mean putting a stop to that, but they'd put it off as long as they could.

^^ when I was a lad running Mini's on a nil budget, your toolbox always left the yard slightly heavier than when it went in innocent

Cooperman ... think that was so common they factored it into their prices 🙂... just about everyone I knew ran an old banger on pennies ... and now they're talking about 30 quid brake-light bulbs!! ... that's ten quid more than my first car cost me ... an Austin A40 Farina I ran for years and went overland to Istanbul (4 up!!) and two years later overland through Marakech and over the Atlas Mountains ... decent value! 🙂

Don't know about down south but 'walk-in' scrappies are just about extinct up here.

That's amazingly cheap, In today's money that's only £125 or so.

Same down here. The days of wandering around and grabbing the bits you need are long gone. There are a few 'Vehicle Dismantlers' around but it's easier these days to use eBay. Most of the scrapyards seem to just crush the cars.

Nice bit of history,

You also have to bear in mind the average gross weekly wage before deductions in 1967 was £20.12.00 so over £8 for a MOT and reline brakes wasn't small change, back then although it seems it today

The intervening inflation would make that about £150+ equivalent in todays money

Or if you run an AMG you just keep the order of the figures and put a decimal point to the right.....

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.
