All that rambling to suggest that the name MG stuck on anything is of zero real world value to me in any way shape or form, unless attached to a British made sports car.
: Sadly Luddite, the rest of the UK car buying public seemed to have had the opposite view to you, and if a car was made in the UK they avoided it. Foreign was better. Started with the Beetle, even for a while with the French cars, then the Japs and as we became a little more prosperous, we gained a German obsession. And since a manufacturing industry usually cant survive without a supportive home market, the UK car industry tanked.

Indeed ... the Honda 750 four was financed off the back of untold millons of Honda 50 step-throughs putting Asia on wheels ... whereas in the same time frame the more affluent UK population was abandoning day to day 2 wheelers in favour of minis and A40s ... leaving our motorcycle manufacturers financing their premiun bike development off the inevitably limited income from selling premium bikes ... not hard to see which way that was going. Cars are going the same way.

I bet on a blind test with the cars debadged and you being told this is a famous marques first true EV people would be less critical.
Brand loyalty & perception is a strange thing & whilst I avoid the subways of this world I also have no desire to overspend at top end restaurants. Each to their own I guess. Totally, it’s all about inflating egos and snobbery and fortunately all that nonsense is fading away with the generation that nurtured it. Agreed. Same reason that some will spend £15k on a watch that does exactly the same thing as a £30 one  I am not sure about the inflating ego and snobbery bit. I own a Ferrari and am a member of the owners club. Most of the guys in the club, but not all of them, are like me F1 fanatics and attracted to Ferrari because of its F1 and le Mans history and its engineering. The latter is less of an attraction these days - engines from BMW , Audi, and even Chevrolet are just as "exotic" as Ferrari but that did not use to be the case. But in the club I see little evidence of snobbery / ego except perhaps at the younger end of people who have "made it", and most of these either go for Porsche or it they can afford it Lambo. The ethos in the Ferrari club is similar to that in Club Lotus and maybe Morgan. Ego and snobbery go with the likes of Rolls
