Hi,

I have a problem with one of the side pad wing thingys, and thought I'd ask if anyone had a similar issue or any enlightening thoughts on how to address.

The side nearest the door now sticks up almost vertically instead of laying at an angle. It used to touch the sill but now there's a clear gap.

It's a bit uncomfortable so I need to fix it before our tour of Spain in June.

Have tried just bending it over, but can't get it beyond the sill and it springs back.

So... Any thoughts?

How do these things attach to the seat, welded/bolted?

I,d prefer not to get the seat out only to find it's not an easy fix and I'll have to put it back together to get it to a garage.

Thanks in advance
Mark

Thought some picks might help.

The top pick is the problem one.

Looks like the squab gasket has failed somewhere and the seat is sitting lower? Pulling the side bolster into the vertical. They usually fail on one side! The seat is a doddle to remove, you can do it kneeling on the ground at the side if the car. six bolts per seat. you may have an electrical connection laying under the seat, if so this is a simple clip to undo, press the tab and pull apart.
To remove the seat from the car lower the backrest fully forward and slide the seat forward in the rails. With the roof down lift the rear of the seat until it rotates into a semi vertical position. Here you are watching the floor fixings bars which are two flat strips of steel bar and they should be sticking out behind the rear of the seat. When all parts are clear lift the seat vertically straight upwards and out of the car. you can now turn the seat upside down and inspect the suspension system from below.

I haven't personally seen underneath the later fancy sports seats but I am assuming they are still fairly similar. If you think Its too much work for you, with the seat out take it to a local trimmer and they should sort it out for you. Seats don't generally break beyond fairly simple repair procedures. Worst case, 20minutes will see the seat back in the car but at least you will have a good idea of what is going on!

Hi Mark,

I removed our side bolster’s recently as mine was touching my left side and it wasn’t that uncomfortable just a bit annoying but we find out that they also stop a lot of drafts as our sides were then getting cold so I put them back on.
You have to remove the seats and the sides are bolted on to the seats and easy to remove once the seat is out.

Thanks,

Seat out then frown. at least I know it can just be removed even if it needs repairing/replacing.

Mark as I'd said I'd be surprised if it can't be sorted!

Mark, there's a proper old school car trimmer in Sheffield, so not too far for you

Done!

Not as difficult as I thought.

This pic shows it (still not sure what it's called) off the seat with the leather off. It's made up from a sheet of steel/aluminium some plywood and foam. I had already put a bend back in the metal by this time.

This shows the bolt holes on the side of the seat. Bolts are those star shaped size T25.

I took the opportunity to stretch and glue the leather to take out some wrinkles before bolting back on.

Thanks all.

+1

And I would guess that it probably took less time than taking a seat to an upholsterer.
