Beautiful engineering will always be that - the purists are in decline and does anyone care about the sniffy Goodwood attitude towards racing. May Bob and his team remain so successful whilst maintaining and renewing these remarkable skills.

I love Revival although far too busy for me these days, I'm not impressed with mass humanity on a good day.

I see what you're coming from, but then if Bob Petersen had been building Bentley Specials back in the 1930s I suspect nobody would have an issue with them now? I don't think they deserve to be thought of as fakes, because nobody is trying to claim them as anything other than they are.

I don't have much of an idea how much these things fetch in comparison to true originals, but I'd be surprised if there was that much of a difference, given the advantages of the Petersen improvements

Hamwich ... my reaction is very much personal to me (as they all are! 🙂) .... for me a big part of the allure of old cars is that they're old .... their survival and history is a big part of it ... there are only a finite number of 'survivors' and, when the car is something special that will often mean big money ... however I've always found the custodians of such cars an order of magnitude less snobby and entitled than supercar drivers ... perhaps knowing you're the temporary keeper of something that will outlive you breeds a bit of humility 🙂

Look at how many parts including body work have been replaced over the years on “original cars”.

That K is exactly what you get with a Petersen and Morgan is it not ?

Ha ha .. yes! ..... literally speaking .... but then a Trabant would outlive you if you shut it in a controlled garage and never used it ... I was more thinking of the automotive equivalent of owning a woodland or listed building ... a sense of previous and future timescale of which you and your custodial input are just a snapshot (I feel it every day when I wander outside with my morning cuppa and look out over the moss ... unchanged for centuries and I've just spent a few days with my chainsaw making sure it's not overrun by 'volunteer' Sitkas so it has the chance to last another few 🙂). I wonder at what point between being the first owner of a factory-fresh Petersen or Morgan (as fresh as any Beemer or Dacia) and it being 100 years old, that sense of being part of an ongoing history kicks in?


Maybe in 500 years the odd century between an original and a Petersen will just be immaterial ... just not right now for me!🙂

I understand that totally and I feel exactly the same about my 26 year old Plus 8 - I keep the one shot and everything on the car is as it was when it was delivered to it's first owner as that is important to me. Other than new rear wheel cylinders linings and front pads all done at home, an agent would find loads to replace as they need to to survive it's just the way it is..

A Morgan of any sort is very special and rare in real terms and that's why a run out is always a pleasurable adventure to share with the general public too they smile and chat.

That 7k for a clutch change on an Aero was a good example of the rip off..

Our cottage was built at some point before 1600, we don't have any definite information beyond that, and sometimes I wonder when we peg out if whoever buys it will modernise it beyond recognition. The standards people expect these days seem so far away from what an old house is capable of delivering without completely losing its character. I hate to think of it with the old floor tiles ripped out and underfloor heating put in, the old spiral stair replaced, the stone mullions hacked about to install triple glazing and so on.

Maybe this is the same feeling that an automobile purists get when seeing restomods and Petersens?

I wonder if a genuine Cricklewood Bentley, perhaps the “small” 3 liter, is really that much more expensive than a newly built Pedersen. I suspect not. That will be different with the brand highlights like the Blower etc. I would prefer a real “entry-level Bentley” to a perfect Pedersen.

But I definitely find Pedersen's craftsmanship impressive and they are beautiful cars.

They are beautifully engineered cars, and with the passage of time, I think I would go with the modern replica, as I would be assured that the parts can still be acquired from Petersen. From reports I've read they are a better car to drive in modern traffic conditions.

I'd far rather see cars which are out of favour, being recycled into something that many would consider highly desirable, rather than remain in their original state and as values decline over the years, the cost of upkeep outweighs their value and we lose those cars altogether.

The Petersen Blue Train special is a fabulous and evocative looking car.
