That's a bit sad , having grown up in Norfolk and a Snetterton race goer Lotus was a big thing producing highly desirable cars at nearby Hethel.

Sad to see them and Jaguar gone down the toilet for all intents and purposes, yet more to come though I think.

Sad to think Lotus are in real trouble, given the Lotus Elan of the sixties/seventies was the first four wheeled machine I really LUSTED after, and in time was fortunate enough to own a couple of examples over the years, truly wonderful machines of their time.

I particularly adore the first Lotus Elite, and I also really like the Super Seven and the Elise.

But I no longer have any sympathy for car companies like Jaguar or Lotus, which completely ignore their brand essence and probably go bankrupt as a result. That's just the way it is. This won't just affect the old British brands, German ones will be there too.

Quite frankly I found the article very confusing. It seems to me that one part of Geely was selling it's share of Lotus to another part of Lotus which just happens to be owned by Geely.

This is much clearer (to me) and seems to confirm that :- https://www.pistonheads.com/news/ph...d-what-it-means-and-why-it-matters/49748

So there is hope for Lotus yet.

Even back when the TM posse visited Lotus and classic Team Lotus, there was huge uncertainty over the future, and the announcement of five (I think) super new models created huge anticipation, just like the TVR announcement which followed. Of course nothing came of any of that. Lotus has always managed to survive, but has never really become a snob badge.

I remember back in the day when Lotus really dominated F1, and the Elan and Europa were cars to covet, but for me, unaffordable. Those were the golden days, and that atmosphere still washes around Classic Team Lotus who are in the same buildings. Worth a visit, but a long drive.

I really did want a Lotus, but could not jump the final gate into an Elan, although i stood at that gate a long time. I took a deposit to buy a new Elise, which on paper should have blown me away, but sadly failed on overall driving feel and gearchange. That's how close I came. I also coveted the modern Europa, looked at a couple but stayed behind the gate.

Lotus, like TVR were taken over by people who have no regard for history and let the whole thing wither away. It's very sad when Caterham stay small and succeed.

Lotus, once the lightweight brand, now has the Lotus Eletre in its range, with a gross vehicle weight of approx. 3000 kgs. You can't get any further away from your roots, it's like a vegan becoming a butcher.

Yesterday, in the span of about 2 minutes, we saw 3 MG SUVs. I remarked to swmbo that I found it somewhat out of place that a brand such as MG could be used for something so far removed from the origins of the historical marque as to not have any sense.

Very true , not sporty at all unless you buy an MG4 X power or Cyberster. Nevertheless I bought the SUV version a ZS EV.
It cost £23k for a good new car. By comparison VW Tesla et al are north of 40k here.
It is as good I would say as the Polo it replaced and at 3 miles per kWh or £0.023 per mile very cheap to run. Insurance at sub £80 is also low.

Were MG dumping them as a new model is coming out. Yes. Did I save £13k yes. Is it the shopping trolley tin top . Yes. So m I bothered about the badge , No.

Range anxiety .No even in winter it has over 200 miles. Right now about 250. I don't have range anxiety over the CX that I refuel at 200 miles.

Do I wish I could by a cheap UK built alternative . Yes , but China has a strategy & is wiping out those companies.

In the real world is it fast yes the acceleration due to full torque instantly means I have a lot of power.
