I need to put some spacers under my seat runners to raise the seats, but for the life of me cannot see how to get a socket onto the bolts holding the seat to the floor. Morgan, in their wisdom have used normal hex bolts, instead of female bolts and the seat channel is too tight to get a socket in. Does anyone have any ideas, short of cutting the channel itself?

Can you access the nut underneath or is it captive?

On my trads I use an open ender, vertically onto the bolt head. The other end is a ring, so I use a tommy bar through that, but it works with an open ender at both ends, but is slow, and tedious.

How about using a box spanner, as the edges are much thinner than a socket, so size for size, it's a much smaller diameter.
Once out, replace them with allen bolts.

Same as for the trad seat bolts by the look of it. When removing the Plus8 seats I had a small a small Stilson that fitted to hold the bolt head while taking the nut off. It was the rear bolt that was the problem, the front 4 were ok . I replaced them with socket heads.
Try the open ended spanner to jam the bolt head or even a flat screwdriver to jam it. An assistant helps! If no assistant gaffer tape. Get socket head bolts ready to replace the hex heads. The box spanner might work as often slimmer than sockets.

Not like the trad there is a smooth under tray so no nuts to go after. The whole CX has lots of rivnuts on it.

I'd try a box spanner first as well and assume its going into a rivnut fastening below. If you can get the box spanner on, undo it very carefully and see if it does have a captive fastening if so you are probably ok to go! warning though, rivnuts are often not installed tight enough and after having been used and pulled up often loosen themselves which can make for some frustration. Being an EX land rover man I have a rivnut gun, If you are going to work on a vehicle that has many of these fastenings It would be a good idea to get one if you already don't have one. If you are ever in doubt about the patency of a fastening you can always tighten them up or replace them if needed. When you've removed the seat bolts replace them with button head torx bolts. I go for stainless, yes, I know everyone will tell you they should be high tensile 8.8 bolts but come on 6 stainless bolts would rip the floor out before before they failed in the event of an accident.

Measure the AF (across flats) size then use the appropriate metric box spanner. Inexpensive set here.

As per this thread in another section, I have now found the two nuts from the outer seat rails tucked up behind a 2cm wiring conduit, once I found these, the rest was easy. There are also, what appear to be some rivnuts close by, although I don't know what these do.

My apologies to MMC for thinking they might have used the wrong bolts into the wrong nuts.
