I christened him Old Maynard as he still has the original owner's name painted on him, C.A Maynard



He's at least 100 years old and a unique antique, you won't find another in the shops on your local high street. I found him on Etsy for £125, he's in what I would describe as 'quite battered' (but serviceable) condition, it seems you'd need to pay £600 for something in better shape.

TBH, I didn't want a pristine and super valuable antique leather trunk as it would be in itself rather attractive to thieves, anyway, Old Maynard has the kind of authentic aged patina you just can't replicate. I fed his tired cracked skin with 4 litres of neatsfoot oil which he sucked right up, I then put 1.5 litres of a lanolin based hide food over that to give the old boy a new lease of life.

'Tis a lovely case and really suits the Morgan. It has the kind of patina that is hard to replicate and gets called 'shabby chic' when people try, with the price tag to match!
