I was surprised to see the announcement but not concerned. I have never had a competitive quote from any of the MSCC recommended insurers.

My feeling is that their policies are more appropriate for newer cars, there are better options available if you drive an older model.

So where does the “Travel Club Commission” that appears in the accounts each year, come from?

The club provides the wallet you get for a tour. The commission I was told by the Treasurer on an NCM zoomcall covers that.
S&C are expensive as they are a travel agent. They provide a service at a cost but having tried hem my private view is if you have the time organise it yourself . It is more fun that way. But of course you then aren't ATOL protected etc

This is from the treasurers report in the 2024 AGM pack on the MSCC site. I hopr that explains it.

Travel Club commission shows a small deficit this year because this is stated aer the cost of travel
wallets that Scenic Car Tours hold on our behalf for use for our specific tours. It was always intended
that the arrangement with SCT was not to generate income but to provide members with a choice of
tours they can enjoy with their cars in the company of other members. I am pleased to see that the
number of members using the Travel Club is increasing

Thanks John. I read that too but don’t really understand the “travel wallet“ principle. But last year, there was in fact a small positive figure.
However, I wouldn’t argue with the good intentions of MSCC not to deliberately generate income; but I understood when the arrangement was first set up, there was an agreement that a small commission would be paid to MSCC for each booking . Maybe my memory defeats me and I can’t be bothered to look it up.
My original comment stems from the memory of being able to get virtually unbeatable travel arrangements via MSCC prior to the SCT arrangement. At the end of the day, being a commercial enterprise, SCT quite rightly, have to make a profit from their customers. I am sure that some people are quite happy to pay a premium to avoid planning and arranging it themselves.
Edit: just noticed your previous post about wallets, etc. after writing this.

Well, that was disappointing. I have 3 Morgans at the moment which are due for insurance renewal mid May. So I rang up Peter James to see if the MSCC scheme was going be worth moving to and they declined to give me a quote because, given there are more than 30 days to run on two of the cars, they would then have to the quotes again nearer the time. Okay, I can see they are not going to make much out of what I'm expecting to be a £500 ish premium but they would not even give me a notional quote. The implication was that I had too many Morgans to be prepared to do a quote now and requote in May. Will I ring them again in May? I doubt it.

Think that’s fairly general amongst insurance companies. Whenever I have had quotes from comparison sites, they all seem to have a 28 day limit. I think because the insurance industry is a very “fluid” concept.
Be good to try them again closer to the time as I think we are all keen to hear if this new initiative has any legs.

In the past, when I have asked an insurance company for a speculative quote they have taken my details, and then held them on their computer so if, at a later date, I went ahead they simply had a few minor updates to make and then we were good to go. I'm quite happy to have a 28 day limit on the quote. I'm not sure there are many other businesses where a customer asks a supplier for a quote and then the supplier says (or at least implies) I'm not going to do that because it costs me too much to do it again if the circumstances change. Supposing I had a mad moment and decided to buy a Morgan CX and wanted to know what the likely premium would be - that would be a speculative quote that might well have to be redone as the buying process would likely take more than 28 days. Would they decline to quote for that? Maybe I'm just being grumpy (not unusual).

I've been a happy customer of G & W since 2018, but, with my renewal due shortly, I thought I'd give the newly appointed MSCC insurers a try for comparison purposes. To be honest I wasn't totally surprised by the outcome..........G & W £348-00, Peter James £501-00. I'll pass this on to MSCC for their records.

Not sure what all the fuss is about, I have just saved £260 on my renewal going from Headly/Finch to Peter James.
PS used Scenic Car Tours many times and they have always been very good including a breakdown in Spain.
