One of my oldest mates is a serial buyer of Citroens, there aren't many models he hasn't owned but he specialises in 2CVs.

His current project is a van previously owned by a dairy, it has cow seat covers and appropriate registration! He has just finished dealing with the rust on the underside...

He previously owned this former Belgian post van, pictured here going up Tan Hill.

Ian, perhaps more than a few decades back when I was a Lotus club member, we used to struggle to find the numbers to help fund hiring Knockhill for a club only track day, and thus would invite selected one make car clubs to join us, the 2CV club was one such, and it was a real hoot to watch them having great fun seemingly defying gravity even more then Pisa`s leaning tower, as they sped round the circuit ...(-:

The closest I got to 2CV ownership was a GS Club. French engineering of the time was interesting and very different...

I remember Dad (repeat VW air-cooled purchaser including a 412LS estate) buying a GS1220 Club estate. It was like a spaceship, then it went wrong, quite a lot. Then the rear wings rusted through in under 18 months.

The dealer invited us to a 2CV Cross event. Mesmerising, maximum putt-putting their way around a hilly field covered in mud like an autocross. I went back a few times after that. The smiles on their mud covered faces were brilliant.

I do fancy the AMG coffee machine but it makes the cars look cheap, £5000 for a desktop thing, great machine maker but that's nuts.

Alistair, I have no interest in coffee, tea bags for me... (-:

Re the 2CV`s off road capabilities, I watched a TV show on the creation of the Africar which was a as best I remember consisted of a plywood monocoque with all 2CV mechanical components. I thought it a great idea...

I watched a programme about the Africar many years ago. Have a book about them too, from the same period.

Yeah, I watched the series and have a copy of the book. It was an interesting concept, albeit a little bit flavoured with 'White man saviour' vibes, the Africans have proved themselves extraordinarily skilled at vehicle maintenance all by themselves.

One of favourite YouTube rabbit-holes to go down is watching blokes manufacturing car parts and rebuilding engines with the bare minimum of hand tools

I think we all bought the Africar book, I still have mine. I bet they made more money out of the book than the car, I can't remember going to an autojumble without seeing at least one second-hand copy for sale.

Saw a clip the other day about a bloke who shoe horned a BMW GS engine into a 2CV. Looked fun....

I bought a GS Club estate new in '73 ran it for 18 months did 50k miles and then the drive shafts began to knock on full lock, when I found out how much they were I sold it pretty quick however it was one of the best cars I've owned.
