Hi everyone,

I’m Annie, writing from New Zealand to share something a little bit special we’ve uncovered on our family farm.

It’s a 1950 Morgan Plus Four Works prototype, chassis number P2038 — believed to be the first Plus Four Works car built by the factory. According to a letter we have from the Morgan Motor Company dated 1977, this car was:

- Originally fitted with a Vanguard V24ME engine

- Used in early rallying

- Personally driven by Peter H.G. Morgan

- Continuously upgraded at the factory before being sold to a private buyer in the mid-1950s

We also have a period rally photo of the car and a 1977 factory letter confirming its prototype status. The Morgan Motor Company has recently expressed interest in bringing the car back into their historic fleet, though their budget is limited — so we’re opening it up to the broader Morgan community.

The car does need restoration, and any transportation or repairs would be the buyer’s responsibility. It’s been dry-stored here on the family farm in Moonshine Valley, NZ.

We’d love to see it go to someone who truly understands its place in Morgan’s history. I’d be so grateful for any insight, reflections, or interest from this amazing community.

Happy to send through documents and images to anyone keen.

Warm wishes,

Annie

Be interesting to see the rest of the letter, what happened after the car was written off by Mr Hall of Bromsgrove!

A romantic idea to get this back to the factory historic fleet; MMC could do the restoration, but the cost of transportation could be prohibitive.

I can understand it was a 'thing' in the day, to update the looks of flat rad and interim models, but I think it would be far better if it retained the original flat rad.

Here's the second half of the letter (the details were also put on morganexperience a few days ago)

I was aware of this car in NZ via the main restorer of Morgans over here, I agree TBM it is a shame that it wasnt left as the flat rad coupe way back then -but that was the way after the war updating everything.
