Dave, I wish you a speedy recovery! If the lambda sensor upstream of the catalytic converter shows an error, then, in my humble layman's opinion, this does not necessarily mean that there is something wrong with the catalytic converter itself. If the sensor upstream of the catalytic converter is OK but the sensor downstream of the catalytic converter reports an error, then I would assume that there is a fault in the catalytic converter itself. Two years ago, we had the lambda sensor upstream of the catalytic converter break while on holiday in Italy. You could see that very clearly in the OBD2 reader. No more voltage jump. The engine went into a kind of emergency run, which is ok for a short time but produces a very rich mixture. This can mean that your catalytic converter is still ok but that it is coked up. That's how it was with us. After we fitted a new lambda sensor upstream of the catalytic converter and drove a few kilometres, everything was ok again.

We came home on the 11th March from a spectacular road trip on the NC500. 8 days later, now Monday afternoon, as I attended the kitchen sealant, I became dropping tools, and the next minute, I'm on the floor. My right arm and leg were useless. That came on on less than five minutes. I also felt at ease, which was weird.
The ambulance arrive in about 30 mins, and by that time, my arm and leg were recovered to about 90%.and on the journey to the Hospital, they came back 100%.
However, the stroke decided to mess with my words and spelling. Over the next two days, that improved, and my chat is like normal, although I can't remember a few words. I can read as normal, but my spelling, means writing posts is a lot slower than before.
All tests were normal. Low blood pressure, no serious Cholestrol, no diabedic traces. The consultant is thinking it might be a small clot from my heart. So I have to do a 72 hour wired up.
The MRI shows a small shadow on the left sight, at the language location. So now I need to arrest this spelling issue, and it is improving slowly.
Meanwhile, no driving for a month and has to be notified fo DLVA.
That's the latest news for now. I was lucky. You will be lucky if its just a month ban - my son blacked out at home and was given the standard 6 months withdrawal of licence. My TIA, which is what it sounds as if you had, warranted on 6 weeks but that was 6 years ago and the rules have been tightened since then. Best of luck with it all. If spelling and typing still are issues use the dictation facility on your phone or PC. I use I phone dictation all the time - short fat stubby fingers and a small phone dont work well together.

Dave last year the MOT examiner warned me my hydrocarbons were very high so this year I drove the 10 miles to the MOT flat out in second gear all the the emissions readings were very low.

Keith, my 4/4 was always just on limits. Your method works a treat. Readings now mid range, but I do ask the mot station to do emissions 1st & not leave the car sitting outside cooling down.

Good to hear, my guy always does emissions first. If I get there early I keep her running on a fast idle.

Mine is a bit more than this, after the October bad running. It's 55 miles to the nearest dealer, so it was plenty of hot enough and he tried as best he could. Also the tailpipe went very black after the bad running, so it will be interesting to examine the O2 sensors. I got two on the shelf anyway.
Remember that Cats don't last forever and I'm unconvinced that MMC use the highest quality. So when I eventually get inside it we'll see what's going on.

When my Silvia was imported from Japan the Cat needed to be replaced for Australian Compliance. From what I can tell Australian Compliance means removing good Japanese stuff like the Cat and seatbelts etc. without an Australian compliance logo on it and replace it with the cheapest nasty stuff the car importer can source locally with a logo.
A couple of years later I was driving along and the car suddenly wouldn't rev past about 2,000rpm and had a funny almost a whistle from the exhaust. The cat has died and the material ended up in the rear muffler almost completely blocking it. I ended up with a whole new exhaust as I needed a new cat and new muffler and the pipes had been badly damaged from hitting something before I got the car.
So yes Cats don't last forever and cheap ones can wear out very quickly, best to replace it before it fills the muffler with rubbish and blocks it.

Today I had the language nurse drop in. This is to evaluate my perceptions and understanding. In hospital within 48 hours I managed 23/30. Today I got 30/30, which is apparently quite rare. So I will bask for the rest of today in my achievement. Oh and the nurse told me that around 30% of strokes are never determined as to why.
