My 4/4 came with a non standard exhaust system and is far too noisy. Need all parts from the outlet of the 4 branch manifold - ca.45mm dia. Suggestions welcome on where to buy welcome. Thanks

An exhaust specialist could make one up for you and fit it to the car

Nothing too difficult about them - just a barrel silencer and tail pipe. Let me know if you need photos and or dimensions.

I had one made up a few years ago for my 1972 4/4 in 1 3/4" stainless. Silencer cost £120 and tailpipe was £65. Written lifetime guarantee as well.

Just make sure that the mounts are sound. 4/4's of that age use a single bolt bracket which works loose and causes the hole in the chassis to wear oval or a nice star crack to form. Much better to modify the exhaust mounts so you have the bracket secured to the chassis by two bolts.

Melvyn Rutter seems to do all the parts but you may need to ring/email for the full system. Librands also have some stainless options. However, both will be much more expensive than having one made up at a exhaust specialist as Arwyn suggests.

I built my own out of stainless ebay bits - mine is intentionally quite loud but could have gone for a larger silencer if needed. Cost about £80 IIRC

Thanks Arwyn, Photos and dimensions would be much appreciated. I note that the tailpipe should have an offset where it passes behind the rear wheel. Also, did you fit fit a tailpipe silencer in addition to the main silencer? Is your exhaust specialist anywhere ear the New Forest?

No tailpipe silencer on mine. Part of the reason I had the exhaust pipe fitted to the car was to allow adequate clearance between the tyre and chassis rail

Sadly my exhaust fabricator on Anglesey!
