I use a silicon spray and treat it a couple of times a year, inside and out.

Seems that this is not uncommon, per a previous thread. One suggestion was to remove the locking cap altogether. I tried this on my Roadster 3.7 and the car ran without any problems. There is a suggestion that the locking cap is being held in by vacuum.

It is possible that it is swelling due to interaction with Ethanol, my KTM filler cap was affected by this and needed a light sanding every so often.

Do you have a sparewheel?

My idea:

Undo the sparewheel and you can undo the whole „capsystem“. There is no vacuum and you can work with some force and fluids.

Also you can destroy the plastic and renew,

Good afternoon.

First time my Plus 6 saw the sunshine in Scotland a few weeks ago the cap was stuck as you all have noted.
Eventually got it out and tried all the silicone ideas etc but it was much better when cool in the garage.
Cut it off tether and Took it to bits, tightened it a bit but was just not right still.

It has never been good from the start and was always a mystery how and when it opened.
Looking at one of the threads on here I spotted the manufacturers name stamped on the bottom of the black plastic.

They are made by Newton-Equipment.
It is the Aero 200 model.
On the website there is a choice of the black plastic saddle or a cast metal saddle.

Strangely the shape is different but more importantly the spindle locates in a metal hole rather than a plastic hole.
It looks like the lever has been turning in the hole in the plastic and worse when hot.

2 days delivery from Newton-Equipment and new crimps for tether.
10 min to fix will do tether in winter as think filler needs to come out to do it but looks straight forward.
Plastic ones are £6.66 and metal £20.90 plus vat.
.£30 ish to fix on a £100k car!

Also new Morgan now apparently come with the metal saddle!
Photos too big to attach.
Anybody need them let me know.

Very common problem. It's because of the plastic which expands when it's hot. In the cold you have no problems. It's the reason I switched to the Pinnacle cap. I once had to call in the home assistance of the Dutch AA to have it opened. There a thread on this topic, I'll search for it. The new metal saddle is better, but the whole construction remains a PITA!

Here you can see the Pinnacle Cap fitted to my PlusFour, which is a relief!

I asked about the "Pinnacle Cap" at MMC, I was quoted £750, so I politely declined. Williams do a "Le Mans Filler Cap" for £581; I might be tempted but, so far, have had no issues with the present cap. It seems like slightly excessive to pay that just for aesthetics.

I agree they are expensive, but I paid less than the 750 GBP, my dealer did the installation for free, as I had also the Nitrons fitted. But I did not pay more in Euro's than you in GBP. Apart from the money, the main reason to do it was not aesthetics but the practicality. The nice looks are a bonus. I think my dealer made me a good offer!
