So yesterday my local Morgan dealer Oakmere Morgan allowed me to try their newly arrived demonstrator. A big thank you to Simon.

I write as a previous trad owner and an Aero Plus 8 owner currently.

The car was a most wonderful shade of blue – BMW San Marino with ivory leather lovely colour but not one I could live with as I’m sure it would soon look not so ivory in day to day use.

It came with the dynamic handling pack, sports exhaust, 19 inch forged alloy wheels and the connectivity pack plus a few other options and would cost approximately £130,000 as tested.

The look has grown on me. Clearly a morgan. Items such as the mirrors, bonnet catches, and the revised side screens are a massive improvement. The boot is functional, quite wide but not that deep. If the side screens are stored in there well over 50% of the space is taken up. Not so sure about the front and rear overriders in contrasting silver to the black but that is a small point and a matter of opinion. I’m told that the front ones are decorative.

The doors open and close with a much more positive action. The side screens do not rattle and are held secure with the new fitting mechanism as well as improved rubbers. We drove with the roof down so cannot comment on how air tight the side screens are or the wind noise.

The cabin was more spacious than my existing car. I think the cabin area is quite a bit bigger. The seat went a lot further back and was comfortable.

I loved the dual purpose buttons for the heating and the audio control. Simon demonstrated the audio system and it worked well providing you are proficient with a smart phone.

On the road the ride is far better than my existing aero. The ride is more compliant, smoother and very sure footed. Steering excellent. BMW engine and gear box also excellent. I suspect that the dynamic handling pack improves the ride over the standard suspension.

Tried the car in standard, sport and sport+ mode.

I felt it was best in sport mode. In standard mode the exhaust note was muffled, and it seemed to hold on to a higher gear for a little longer than necessary. Probably suited to a long motorway run. Sport mode provided a little more exhaust noise a lower gear at a given speed and as such the car went better. It is a fast car a very fast car and in sport mode picks up speed in a blink of an eye.

Overall, a massive leap forward for Morgan. Would I have one - yes I think I would.

It looks good without the hard top. Hopefully it’s watertight and more reliable than previous models!

I now love the chunky front end, with reservations about the "Over-riders", but I could not live with the rear end, even if it was half that price at £75K.

Compared to the Aeromax, its an ugly duckling.

We get a lot of snow up here in Yorkshire so that built in front shovel may come in really handy laugh2

Stick 4 Michelin all season boots on it and at £5 a pop to clear the neighbours drives it will pay for itself in, erm, 50 years...winner winner !

If MMC "update" the Plus Four around the CXV chassis (improved doors, side screen attachment, bonnet catches, etc) but kept the P4 shape, then I might get interested in a new Mog.

Thought a fully loaded SS would top out at £120k so price is a bit of a shocker - maybe a wedding present for Jeff?

Blue is okay, but prefer the launch model flavour and not liking those dark grey wheels either.

Plus 6 rides again - evil are you sure? nono shut up.

Some desirable alternatives at that level and below it.

At £130k the SS is in 911 territory. I know where I'd spend my £130k.

Note Oakmere copied my P4 colour / interior combo. Simon must have made a mental note when he handed me the keys of my P4 ;-)

Two Supersports at Mogfest ...I preferred it without the hard top (although I quite like that striking rear view), and would like to see one with the front overriders in black rather than silver. Overall a nice piece of design that moves things forwards for Morgan. The dark blue one looks good
