In my case the highbeam switch is part of the stalk on the steering column which unbolts from the steering column. All the electrical switching bits for the highbeam are contained in the stalk. I first checked the headlight switch on the dash was working correctly and the fuses were Ok, which they all were.

Definitely this. You absolutely do not want headlamp current passing through the column switch.

There is a relay between the headlight master switch on the dash and the stalk switching mechanism that determines dipped or main beam. If you have either dipped or main beam then the relay and fuse is working it is the switching mechanism.

My 1994 +8 had head light issues with dipping, the dim dip relay had packed up. It's a little black box with wires behind the middle of the dash. No writing or identification on it, no longer available and not servicable due to being full of resin. Morganatica has the instructions on removing it in the '06 Electrics > Lights' section. If you want side lights in your headlights after removing it you will have to change your headlight units to ones with pilot lights which you can wire up to the wing side lights. I changed my head lights from Lucas (Prince of Darkness) 7” RHD H4 LUB328 with out pilot light to H4 LUB 383 with pilot light, but you might take the opportunity to upgrade to something better or brighter!

Just to close this one out, the problem turned out to be the switch on the steering column. I've changed this and everything is working fine. For future reference the replacement column switch is Lucas P/N SQB119 39897.
Thanks for everyones help and suggestions.

I don’t have high beam when stalk pushed forward . The high beams are supposed to lock on when you push stalk forward. My main beams and brights when I pull stalk back - all work fine .
Could it be the “dim/ dip relay /box ?
People say the “ indicator “ module . I’m AssumingTurn Signal module “ ??? They mean to say . What do you think I need to try ? New “ dip/ dim box “?
OR the “ turn signal / indicator module “
I don’t understand why a indicator / turn signal relay would cause problems with high beams ? Thanks appreciate it

If you've tried a new stalk (which would be my first suggestion) I'd look to the earths
