240 mile journey today on our annual visit to north Yorkshire for Leo and I. On/off drizzle and showers up the A1 was offset by the stunning sunlit roads and views once we turned off. Staying for three nights in the heart of the dales at Buckden, upper Wharfedale. Views exceeding expectations.
Strange chirping noise from hood on the A1 left a clue when I found M6 nylock and washer in the footwell, thankfully a quick fix.

Looks a cracking run George .... envious, as it's been miserable with downpours and thunder just a bit further north here today (though hopefully that will help the wildfires up the coast ... been smelling the smoke in the air on and off for days) .... a day for indoor jobs!
K, you know as well as I we just have to grab the keys when the forecast is friendly...(-: Yeah the effects of long dry periods drying the countryside has created issues which are somewhat scary...
The Dales holiday holiday continues with a visit to Askrigg yesterday where the original Herriot TV series was recorded in the 70's. Had to visit the Kings Arms pub transformed into the Drover's for TV.
Possibly against better judgement we then took the narrow road north over the hills, dropping into Muker via a 25% stretch, and on towards Thwaite before turning back south onto ButterTubs pass, popular with bikers. The northern end being particularly scary built into the side of a very steep hill. The steel cables protecting from near shear drop below seem more sinister than the usual Armco as we sped past inches from them, thankfully uphill. A calming stop in Hawes at the southern end was welcome.
Today after hearty Yorkshire breakfast we visited a dry but breezy Ribblehead viaduct with Leo getting his walk among the 23 pillars that support this amazing construction, still in use today carrying the Settle to Carlisle line.
Then back through Hawes and on to the scenic Aysgarth Falls with a lunchtime snack at the Millrace Cafe.
