Drove back from Wales today after a few days touring and as usual took the scenic cross country route, goodness me - potholes, bridge joints, sunken manholes, speed humps with a deep hole either side, topped off with miles crappy cheapo tar and chippings remediation of roads that need a proper job doing...all compound to kill the joy of driving And I think a front wing stay has broken, Grrrr

Sounds horrendous Jon.
You might find that the wing stay bolt has just fallen out which gives similar symptoms. Happened to me around 8 years ago.

Just to say it like Douglas Adams - "what only can be described as the rain..." At least I found a nice spot to put the hood up as there was no way of braving it out. Would have needed a set of wipers an the inside as well... ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2025/07/23/IMG_0549.jpeg)

Thats what I do, when the rain gets too heavy (running down the inside of screen) if a covered petrol station forecourt presents itself I swerve in and either wait or erect the roof. Once in Cheddar and many times in NZ.

A golf umbrella is handy for times when there's no service station. I'm in the car in front, we're pulled into a lay-by whilst a particularly spectacular French rain shower does it's best to punch through the umbrellas ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2025/07/24/P1000843.md.jpeg)

Cooperman... I live here and you are absolutely right in your descriptions of the roads herein Wales. The bodge repairs are unbelievable, they look like a class of primary school kids did them in the dark.... unsupervised. They last only moments as no prep work was done. I now have set routes I take to try and enjoy driving my car, usually in the more remote areas that have better A roads like the high roads in the north but the main daily roads and very small back roads are almost un-drivable in a normal euro box. I sold my Defender recently and have now bought a Jimny I imported from Japan as I couldn't stand it anymore! There's a series of small roads I use to take my daughter to her blind archery lessons and they are now literally farm tracks and its not as though they are remote, people live all along them! People, believe me when I say these roads are full of these dodgy repairs you can't avoid them as they are infact more repair...... sorry bodge than road! This has been going on for at least 4 years so you can imagine what they are like. Where's the so called money Kier you said you gave for road repairs?
So fellow Morganeer's, Where once I would openly suggest that you come and drive and enjoy the wonderful scenery here I'd now strongly advise against it as you are likely to have a major component failure from these terrible driving conditions here, Then you'll find you have no phone signal and in a Morgan you will be miles away from help! No dealers here!

I am at the Oulton Park Gold Cup event this weekend. We called in at the Yonderman cafe in Derbyshire for breakfast and had a really nice run through the peaks to Oulton Park. 3 other Morgans here so far. Unfortunately I didn’t see the option to park in the display field, so we were parked in the general car park. So far it seems to be a very good event and good value for money too as tickets and food/drink prices are not excessive for once!
The car is running well, a credit to my old man for maintaining a 52 year old car!

Nice little 50 mile run out on a lovely evening to a local 'Petrolhead Cafe' really nice spot out in the country .... was an upmarket eatery for 'ladies who lunch' but didn't survive covid ... been sadly empty since ... now opened up as a place for car-nuts to meet and hang out ... lounge area with big TVs showing racing and lots of bike and car related stuff ... there's nothing like that in the area so I reckon it stands a good chance .... they put on a Friday fish and chips night and had a really good turnout (think everyone wants to support the new venture) ... just everything across the board from a military '40 ford flathead to a race Lotus Exige via a plethora of porsches (and more Harleys than you could shake a stick at!) ..... before anyone nips ma heid about parking in the disabled bay, the place has well over the required allottment and the owner likes to put a selection of 'different' cars out front so directed me there ... plenty left. All in all a fine evening out. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2025/07/25/20250725_182642.jpg) More general view before it filled up ... something for everyone ... no idea what the white car in the centre was ... looked like the offspring of a Morgan Aero and an XK 120 ... really odd ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2025/07/25/20250725_202540.jpg) Part of the lounge area (again, before it filled up) ... one up on a greasy-spoon ... think it will be a real asset to the local car and bike scene. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2025/07/25/20250725_190658.jpg) K
