What model year cars do you all have?
Are you greasing your king pins?
thanks Vitruvius, They have those newish things with grease nipples instead of the one shot oiler - that's why they have to renew the kingpins after 10 000 mls.

DaveW's gaiters are excellent, I've transferred mine from Mog to Mog, pic shows them as fitted to my Roadster and still looking good after 15000 miles

It's very much a good idea to convert to hard chrome kingpins, as well as fitting gaiters to the rebound springs.

I just changed my kingpins. The car had 15,600 miles on it. I was told to expect to change them every 17K or so.

It's very much a good idea to convert to hard chrome kingpins, as well as fitting gaiters to the rebound springs. Does anyone know if Morgan ever started fitting Hard Chrome Kingpins? and if so when from?. If not why the hell not???

Does anyone know if Morgan ever started fitting Hard Chrome Kingpins? and if so when from?. If not why the hell not??? Because they now use stainless steel kingpins (from the early noughties???). It's the bronze bushes that wear the most, not the pins. Chrome plating was introduced by the after-market to prevent the old steel pins from rusting, which would lead to rapid bush wear, - hard chrome because ordinary chrome would peel off in use. Personally, I don't see any advantage of hard chromed pins over the stainless ones. Fjemog

I don't know what mine were, but they were still fine after 30,000 miles (2005 Roadster)

My stainless pins were badly worn in under 10,000 miles. There were four dealer stamps when I bought it and approx 5,000 miles recorded. I think part of the problem is the unscientific way the bushes are reamered (or is it reamed). Every stub axle will be slightly different, so clearances will vary. Someone had fitted upper grease nipples to mine without checking if the pins were drilled. They were not. So all in all that was not impressive.
I now have hard chrome.

Fjemog I don't know what they fit currently, but the early stainless KPs that the factory fitted were a pretty soft grade, so people found they still wore pretty quick. I don't have any personal experience, I went straight from mild steel to hardchrome. I was replacing the mild steels every 20k miles or so, I have 30k miles on my hardchromes with no discernible wear yet.

I'll be going the hard chrome route when mine need changing next - think motorcycle fork legs... Bushes will have grooves to hold grease. And DaveW - 'reamed' is I believe the correct term...  Cheers,
