My petrol mower is getting on a bit as am I. I am thinking of replacing it with a battery driven model. The lawn is flat & roughly 80m2. I would prefer a self propelled version as I need a total knee replacement at some stage.
What would be the recommendation from the forum members for the best buy.

John, I did some research earlier this year, I found to get battery powered with self propel option they were over double the price and had low run times because of the wheel propulsion - so went petrol again
Ended up with Einhell brand bought from Machine Mart, very happy with it

I've had a petrol Hayter 41 for many years. It's still going strong with minimal maintenance. Keep thinking of changing. Both the petrol and battery mowers are about £1k. I like my stripes on the lawn, although it's a bit sad at the moment, hence having a mower with a roller rather than 4 wheels. But my lawn is about twice the size of yours.

Ahh, now then.
I was never a fan of the battery concept being a dyed in the wool fan of my halter self propelled petrol mower that lasted 21 years. But it was getting harder to start so changed it for another Chinese petrol mower by cobra, this with electric start. Used it for two seasons but as we have 4 lawns on 4 levels it was heavy to lift from level to level.
SWMBO, who is a much keener Gardner than I am bought herself a small mountfield battery mower a few years ago and it’s given good if occasional service.
I decided I’d give a battery mower a try and so sold the cobra and bought a Einhell. This failed within a week and was swapped for an identical replacement. The Einhell, worked fine, coping with about 120 sq m of lawn and was so light it was easy to lift and certainly didn’t need to be self propelled. Until a week ago!
The second mower failed! Not good enough I felt and demanded and received a full refund.
Looking around I discovered a combination of very dry summer and approaching end of season all retailers are currently discounting pretty much everything related to garden machinery.
So yesterday I popped to B&Q, bought. 41cm MAC mower with similar specs to the Einhell for under half of my refund. £150. Just finished using it tonight and it’s done all 4 lawns us in less that 50% of its power.
So I can’t recommend Einhell and its early days on the MAC but what I can say is that they are light enough not to need self propulsion and prices are currently very low compared to earlier in the year.

I have had an Ego 19 inch self-propelled mower with 5 Ah battery for four seasons now and it hasn't put a foot wrong, dead easy to use, quiet, essentially zero maintenance (I suppose one should sharpen the blades now and then, but, well...). I just stick it in the shed come September and pop it out again in May. For Morgan-owning mechanical maestros the absence of having to fiddle about with spark plugs, fuel, etc. may actually be a downside, but for me it's been a gods end.
My mother in law used an inexpensive plug-in Gardena model with a long lead for many years and was very happy with it.

We’ve had a husqvana robot mower for 3 years now - absolutely brilliant - goes out and cuts every night, no grass clippings to dispose of - a genuine time saving device with no downside
