That was a fun killer in Series 2.

I once had an early 2014 3.7 Roaster with this issue. On this particular car the ‘tipping point ‘ was at about 3500rpm, above which the engine revs would hang for between 2 and 3 seconds with my foot off the accelerator. Fast gear changes above 3500rpm resulted in a violent squirm from the rear and were never attempted with SWMBO onboard. Leisurely progress was the only way round this and a few thousand miles were added in my year of ownership.

However, enter an admittedly rare scenario when this issue can have serious consequences. Picture a wet road on which oil has been spilt near a roundabout. On light gas accelerating away from said roundabout in a straight line, if both rear wheels lose grip due to an exceptionally slippery road surface, the engine revs may rise above the ‘tipping point’. And stay there for several seconds, even though the throttle is immediately released. If during this brief period one of the rear wheels finds grip, the result may not be a happy one.

Having since been a passenger in 2 of these cars, neither of which displayed this particular characteristic, I can only conclude it was bestowed upon the chosen few and quietly corrected over time.

The S1 is a great Roadster, and I still miss mine

if you want to home tweak the ECU (which is easily reversable) BlueFin make a plug in unit

But as Massi writes, he might have found an S1 based on the instrument layout, and it never had any problems with rev hang anyway.

Thank you very much!

Your suggestions are very important!
