Hello,
I have a 1986 Morgan Plus 4 with a Fiat 2.0L engine.
Looks like the ignition coil has packed up and wondered if there was a specific replacement for this model/engine type, or if there is a general replacement which would cover this model and possibly others as well?
Thanks

Richard,

I came across your reply to Smuggs on coil replacement. I am installing a new 123 electronic distributor running off the cam connected to the new Petronius coil.

Do you remember where the + post connects to on the 1986 Fiat 2.0 liter engine? All previous wiring had been removed. Car has two Lucas 7FJ fuse boxes on bulkhead.

Thanks. Much appreciated.

Smuggs,

Looks like I mixed up my reply by going to Richard instead of you as you have the same model +4 as I do with the Fiat engine. Would you be able to tell me the wiring from the + terminal on the new coil you installed to the fuse box?

Much appreciated.

Nick,

Thanks for the offer. Mine is the 2 liter Fiat, Chassis # F 7168 with fuel injection. Have owned it since new having taken delivery from Morgan in August 1986. Living abroad I kept it in the UK until 2012 when I brought it to the U.S. I drove it during visits to the UK visiting my wife's parents and it was in storage. Lot of issues mainly due to lack of use. Major one was the petrol tank rotted out, pump, fuel lines full of rust. Main issue when I got it here was the electronics as the ones on Land Rovers, etc. for the U.S. with emissions controls were different. We decided to remove the old system and replace it with a Fiat specific updated injection system based on the Mega Squirt system. This proved to be less than satisfactory. So, finally decided to replace it with a Weber carburetor and everything installed including a new 123 electronic distributor running off the cam and new Petronix coil. Trying to figure out the best wiring from the + side of the coil into the ignition system.

Love the car and the engine. I recall it took some miles for the engine to break in when it was new but then it was great. I also have a 1958 +4 which I have owned since 1972 and a 2012 M3W.

Appreciate any help you can offer.

I probably can't help much. I was going to offer a picture I suppose, but mine is entirely standard injection so won't help you I guess. Lovely engine really suits the mog. Gearbox narrow gate takes some getting used to but great ratios.
I love mine.

Also have the 2.0 Fiat with standard injection system.
I just got the pins of the ecu connector redone - feels much better.
Before I also suspected that the coil to be the problem...

Hi Tom and sorry for the belated reply.
In the end, I discovered that it wasn't the coil that was the problem and didn't need to replace it, so still running with the original Fiat coil.
Cheers,

Smuggs,

Is yours fuel injected or one of the early ones running on carburetors?
