Having had the wheel speed sensor pack up, bodging it to get it working again and realising that I needed a new one, I got one of Andrew's (Bunny on here) long lead sensors which arrived today. This evening I steeled myself to fit the new sensor which was obviously a classic ten minute job and ten minutes after starting it was all fitted, cables neatly routed and secured and working as it should. I don't think this has ever happened before. No random rivnuts spontaneously started spinning, no other bits fell off, nothing broke and it all just worked. Very strange.
Thanks to Andrew for a good, sensible kit of bits to do the job.

The ten minutes does not include the hours poring over the loom diagrams and rummaging behind the dash trying to find the wire that I had obviously disturbed while fixing the indicator stalk button wiring that had come apart. The speedometer had packed up as soon as I had got the button working again so it took a while before I thought to test the hall effect sensor which had decided all on its own to fail as soon as I had fixed the other electrical gremlin, presumably out of spite.

The one I got from Bunny fitted easily as well. You just don't expect that with a M3W. 😁 The shim washer clearance was perfect even!

Sod's law dictates this is an unusual scenario but what euphoria when a well researched job provides the expected outcome and happens in a timely manner without rushing

Very happy with the kit - fitted easily and gets the connector neatly out of the weather ... done as preventiv emeasure rather than because of failure ... and the old one is in the spares box...."just in case"

I recently replaced my 2015 M3W's turn signal module with a new one from Morgan, supplied by Morgan Spares. I have a spare unit from Bunny that I kept, "just in case" the Morgan one decided to go on strike.
I now have the tachometer going wild, indicating high RPM, and the engine cutting out completely. I pull off the road, shut the ignition key off, and the engine re-starts immediately.
This problem has become more frequent, and is a safety issue, with the engine cutting out at most inopportune times while in traffic.
I suspect the new turn signal module is at fault, and even though my turn signals are working well, I will be installing the improved Bunny version.
The above non-withstanding, I am asking the knowledgeable members if the wheel speed sensor has anything to do with the tachometer indication, as well as the unwelcome engine stoppages.

I assume your 'spare unit from Bunny' is a speed sensor. [To avoid any confusion, I have never supplied Turn Signal Modules!] However, with your symptoms, I would suspect that the new TSM may be faulty, or maybe the connectors or wiring leading to it need to be investigated? The speed sensor signal does pass through the TSM on its way to the ECU but I doubt this could affect the tacho reading or cause engine stoppages.

Andy: Thank you very much for the information. My apologies for confusing the source for my updated turn signal module. What I have is a more robust turn signal module that was supplied by Alister Watt, to whom you were kind enough to refer me.
I was a bit dismayed by the recent failure of my Morgan-supplied Turn Signal Module, and I suppose I have to resign myself to whatever quality- control (or lack thereof) is being implemented by the factory.
I will be installing the Watt TSM, and hoping for a better result.

If replacing the TSM doesn't fix the problem with erratic tacho indications and engine cutting out, it may do as it does a lot of strange things, I would have a look at the Crank Position Sensor as that feeds an engine speed and position signal into the ECU for ignition and tacho indication. Bunny also does a replacement one of those at a very reasonable price 😊.

Hi Tom, the Alister Watts TSM came via me. He has a minimum economic batch size for production so I have been ordering batches and passing these on at cost.

The MMC module has a fundamental weakness to over or reverse voltage whereas Alister's has robust built in protection for these. It also has additional functionality in allowing user selection of the time before automatic cancelling (nominally 7 seconds, 14 seconds or off) and also functions as a peak battery voltage recorder which can help check the health of your battery.

Chris: Yes, I do recall that you sent me the Alister Watts TSM, which I will now install on my 3W. My appreciation as well to Planenut for the input on the crank position sensor.
