I've driven a CX when they were first released, that was before I injured my back 3 years ago and have given up on manual Classic Morgans in the search for an auto. I've come across a really nice MY22 manual car, but its way down south and a good days drive there and back .


I've read a few test reports on the MY22 and only one mentioned a heavy clutch and bulky gearbox especially in traffic. Is that others experience and how heavy is the clutch relative to a trad and how much room is there in the foot well for a size 10 ? Whilst one can get a sense of the clutch operation during a short test drive, I would appreciate others experience.

I know the problems with the recall etc and would only buy a CX with 3 years warranty. How reliable are people finding the MY22 in general following on from the recall etc.

So how relatively heavy is the gearbox operation or should I hold off for an automatic?

JohnV6 is the man you need as he has dodgy knees and enjoys his manual version over many miles both here and on the continent.
He has a group over that side of the country and they meet up somewhere for a day out every Wednesday but he'll answer you when theyreturn I'm sure John.

I find it very light. Not an issue at all.

It's certainly heavier than my 2017 4/4 but I don't find it a problem at all.

It is mutch heavier than my +4 2009, +8 1990 and ARP4

Thanks everyone for your comments. Had a sit in a Plus FOUR automatic and manual , and the clutch certainly felt heavier than my trads (with the exception of the Roadster). They both had the side screens on and with the deep seat bolster holding me quite firmly in the seat, there was no getting away from the hood frame intrusion/rubbing on my upper arm. The foot wells felt very tight, the auto foot well was doable but the frame arm rubbing.is a no go.

I sat in the Supersport and must admit for the money I was underwhelmed by the very expensively optioned demo car. Compared to some of the later trads, it lacked the depth of luxury I associate with polished wood dash, steering wheels etc..I just felt the interior to me was a bit too modern for the vintage exterior. it just lacked something compared to the beautiful 2017 Roadster in the showroom with wires and wood dash and steering wheel and brilliant metallic green paintwork, was all what I expect from a Morgan for a fraction of the price. But as they say each to their own and I must suffer from a form of Magpie syndrome..as clearly all that glistens isn't gold. I jumped back into my Mercedes and thought now this is sumptuous by comparison to the Supersport..



It appears another P6 has just been written off today, back end slid into an armco at an island.

Ouch! Hope the driver and passenger are OK.

The answer is..........buy the 2017 Roadster.......🥳.....
Or...... a Sigma 4/4.......🤷🏻‍♂️

The Super sport has grown on me, as long as it hasn't got the horrendous hardtop.......
I've driven a manual Plus Four and I thought the clutch was fine....... oddly though not as light as my 07 4/4....🤷🏻‍♂️

John - I would be inclined to try a few manual one's for clutch feel - after the untimely demise of my first Sport when I was looking around for a replacement Morgan and had a drive of a Roadster and the clutch was a killer for my knee.

My 1999 Plus 8 is light to me albeit not as light as my Son's Sport admittedly the return spring is disconnected as it is unnecessary tbh.

An Auto Plus Four is my fallback position if the knee finally says no, but who knows maybe I'll get a Bullitt Mustang instead - too many cars to choose from, but the V8 is my tune really and seldom have I not had one to play with.

John, assuming you went to Oakmere ‘Morgan Cheshire’, I looked at the three cars and I agree 100% with what you said. The hood fittings also look a bit in the way but I have not sat in one of these later cars. I don’t like the look of the Supersport nor the rather bland plus four . For me lights and clutter add something . We have a cluttered fireplace mantle in one room and an uncluttered minimal fireplace surround in another . I prefer the cluttered room.
