I fitted a set of Mulfab steering bearings to my 1986 4/4 and found that (probably due to the steeper castor angle of earlier cars) it made the problem of steering shake/St Malvern's dance considerably worse. I even tried fitting a motorcycle steering damper to calm things down before admitting my mistake and reverting to the original setup with the damper blades.
Many years later when I fitted the SSL front suspension system I still kept the damper blades and when correctly adjusted they work extremely well indeed. Nothing against the Mulfab bearings, they are splendid bits of kit, but not really designed for cars like mine.
Of course, for later cars with a shallower castor angle, steering racks, a wider track and wider tyres none of this is relevant
