I had a bad day yesterday. I fell in love with a jaguar xk150. It's a very beautiful thing. Has anyone here any experience of running a fifties Jag? I'd appreciate a dose of reality as I'm all stars in the eyes at the moment.

Look great, decent performance and reliability, fantastic spares back up and limitless upgrades/ modifications available, if you want them.

I own an XK140 special which I've had for more than twenty years, rather modified though.

I've also owned an XK120 roadster which was a fabulous thing. Again modified.

Nick,
as Rich said I have had a fair number of XK powered cars namely 2 Suffolk SS100's, a Suffolk "C" Type, an S1 E type o.t.s and an xk140 o.t.s. Jaguars are totally brilliant from the '50''s and '60's I have a number of friends who have 150's and they are possible the best of the lot in terms of comfort and usability , however IMHO the XK 140 o.t.s is the best of the bunch. Mine was rebuilt by CKL who are one of the best in the business, the car is very comfortable I had bucket seats, the main thing is to check for rust which like all cars from that time there was minimal protection, the Moss gearbox can be a pain and will sometimes leave you with box full of neutrals when you least want it., the overdrive is a real boon. The engine is the thing though so sooth and powerful parts are easily avaiable as and when you need them.
It was the lack of torque from my previous 4/4 and plus 4's after driving along with the big six that brough me back to Morgan with a 110 edition Roadster, the V6 is great, perhaps not as smooth as the straight 6 however, if you fancy an XK , do all the usual checks and buy from a reputable source like Twyford-Moors or Guy Broad and you want go wrong best of luck

Rich old chap,
What on earth is an allbran, is that some strange devon cult.? I have replied to Nick, I hope it helps him a bit, I still wonder if I should have stayed with the XK 140 when I traded it for an Alvis TE21 cabio? I hope you are well and still enjoying your isolation on the western peninsular.

Reg - Allbran apparently keeps you regular - so a play on words - you are not ordinarily a daily visitor rofl

My good lady makes an amazing Allbran cake, not as you might imagine but very tasty and good fried with your breakfast with your black pudding.

Yes Graham and a few of us on here have had some good trips away this year to foreign parts, so the passport needs renewing soon.

You still eggbound in Wroxham ...

Like it Rich, you are quite correct, I seem to have spells of T.M. I don't seem to find the time however I'm stuck indoors with a dodgy tummy today so I can catch up.
