Hi now here is a question , do you fill the fuel tank up while putting the car away for the winter or leave it half full

I drive it over winter on dry days , so both. I add Stabil to one full tank in Oct.

That has always been my preferred way to overcome winter petrol storage, dry winter days are often the nicest for a quick blast around a favorite route, mine being around the broads which takes around an hour, just enough to get me trough the day.
Here for a good time not a long time!! Reg

The only thing I studiously avoid when driving Morton in the winter is salt on the roads. A dry road immediately after a freezing spell can look tempting but beware the amount of salt dust picked up. If it does happen wash the underside immediately after.
I relax when the weather has warmed after a freeze and we have had rain to wash the roads free.

I use both mine year round so the fuel is constantly cycled, as Richard says salt is the only no go for me also. The effect a brisk winters run over Dartmoor can have on your wellbeing is amazing. But of course you can get caught out ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2025/10/30/Morgan-Mostly-017.jpg) Like us Morgan's need exercise as we do, otherwise things start suffering through lack of use. I take her out whenever I can, winter or summer.

I try to keep mine full (E5) over winter but, as others have posted, take the car out for a run on salt free dry days. If I can do better than one run a month from November to March then I am reasonably content.
The good news is that my favourite source of E5 is 12 miles away. On a good day, that turns into a 40 mile round trip.

I too am a winter driver, but salt on the roads is a 'no go'!!!
I try to have as little in the tank as possible, just in case I don't' get out for a a few weeks, then stick some fresh fuel in as I set off so it is mostly new fuel in the tank. Manky old fuel is not good for the fuel system/engine.
It's a pain to only quarter fill the tank each time (or more if I'm anticipating a longer journey) but I'm prepared to do it rather than have half a tank of 3 month old fuel!

I use E5 in my +8. I am away much of the winter but like others do drive it just a few miles on salt free days. Never had a problem with fuel. But my lawn mower which runs on the same fuel unless I drain and leave with bioethanol free fuel it will never start.

Although the car is used during Winter whenever conditions are right, I tend to keep the tank filled so as to minimise condensation with subsequent corrosion inside the tank.
