Ian, wasn't aware of the bulletin board until you mentioned it and after wasting a valuable hour trying to register I find I now have to await confirmation that I can even view anything after providing everything except my inside leg measurement, I hope it will be worth it, I have never come across such a complicated registration in any club., but thank you anyway.

I've always struggled with how a Solus agreement in insurance (competitive market) stacks up to be the best for it's members let alone the Anti Competitive Practices laws

Interesting thinking re TM in terms of approaching club like status.

Having been amongst the first to join the MSCCC DG (Morgan Sports Car Club Discussion Group) when it appeared on the www in the mid 90`s, I have witnessed a few related issues in my time, as well as learning a lot from the members of that forum (most of which is likely sadly forgotten these days).

Of course there was rather a lot of allegiance to the MMC in the early days of the MSCC DG, a time when we were all learning how best to communicate at high speed and across continents, it could be a bit like the Wild West on occasion, and where any criticism of the MMC seemed to be discouraged FAR more than it might be today on TM..?

In time as eMog appeared on the www with it`s gomog webmaster being other than UK based, it seemed there was no sense that seemingly justified criticism of the construction of Morgans both new or old was discouraged to any extent, if at all... Though I do believe that there were UK based contacts that perhaps had a go at doing so, but the webmaster was not the kind to be easily discouraged.

GoMoG, derived from Greater Ottowa Morgan Owners Group, if memory serves ..?

eMog lasted for quite some time, and as best I can remember eMog was the first I know of, set up a pub section to encourage chat, there was no advertising to fund either GoMoG or eMog, but it was closed to the membership, though anyone could join..... Unfortunately in time personalities kinda killed it off, which was no real surprise given some of the stronger minded personalities involved..Pity.

It seems that TM may have benefitted from a better educated membership in terms of no doubt some of the members here witnessing the demise of other forums, thus perhaps maintaining a degree of self restraint on possible temperamental input, which makes TM the happy place to share our Morgan experiences. The Soap Box idea works well for me too.. (-:

Setting up alternatives to old style clubs given the way they may have evolved to become ever more business minded is nothing new, but may not always work out as hoped....

Scenic Car Tours have set the pricing and are underwriting the whole event and; “MSCC will not make any money from this venture”…”but, equally, will not lose any money”.
At present 75 rooms have been sold. Packages have been taken up by a small number from the USA, New Zealand, Poland, Germany and Belgium. 21 packages have been sold to our French Morganeers; this represent 36 people. Once the French packages are paid for the event is then deemed to be ‘viable’. And that above breakdown represents 180 people.

That is from the Centre’s secretary meeting this week !
Also they feel offering day tickets would upset the oversea buyers who have paid the high prices .

I still think it's a shame.........!🤷🏻‍♂️

I attended the MMC 100 years at Pickersley Road, I don't recall it costing anything other than £160 for 2 nights B&B it was a great day culminating with a TM meal at The Cottage in the Wood.

I can understand why they have outsourced the organisation of the event (and financial risk) to a third party. Many clubs rely heavily on volunteers to help organise and run such events, which can be quite demanding and stressful of one's time given freely. Increasingly, in my experience most members just want to participate in the event, and not put the hard work in to create the event, which is often a thankless task, with often the only recognition /reward being you have put your hallmark on the event. .

I admire the volunteers for their dedication and commitment, I been there myself in my Harley days, but these days I just want to enjoy the event, and the hard work of others and somewhat a little selfishly on my own terms without any commitment beyond physically attending and paying any dues...
