Next project will be to replace the leather covered dashboard with a burl walnut one to match the steering wheel.
However, the appearance of the oval insert housing the instruments has never particularly appealed to me and I feel that to simply place this back in with the new dash is going to look pretty ordinary
My thoughts turned to something like carbon fibre but am worried that this would not marry too well with the burl walnut and not be in-keeping with the vehicle.
Has anyone tackled this dilema before? Anyone have any ideas?
I made this change in my previous car, a 4/4 from Leather covered to a Walnut one --- I wrestled with designs and materials for the middle instruments bit for weeks and having mocked up a number of things eventually went for just swapping out the panel from the leather one.
I think it turned out fine and was in keeping with the rest of the car -- see
I love the "tree" Robbie; it looks great with the Morgan logo on it. You have some interesting things in your car....a very neat remote control for your radio if I'm not mistaken....but what is the wooden construction in the passenger footwell?
Not sure about carbon fibre on your dash Neil....its ok on the Aeros but something more traditional would look good against walnut. Engine turned alloy like Aeromans M3W dash perhaps? Steve Simmonds does a variety of different panels which might be worth looking at.

Jay, My wife is only 5ft 4in so she needed a footrest. I manufactured a "T" from two bits of 3in x 2in and faced the ends with some spare leather. This means she can rest her feet on it or, if she wants, or someone taller is in the car they can place their feet beyont the cross piece without problem. Very much cheaper than a Librands footrest!!!
The remote for the radio is a Sony XS4 which connects to any Sony headset. Means full control of the Radio / CD without having to look at the radio at all. I originally had on on a motorbike. I have a similar set-up in my new plus4
The 4/4 is now resident in the UK again - living in the Midlands and owned by a MSCC member!
Hey Robbie , nice to see the Skoda fabby in the pictures a contender for best value for my money as a new family hack. On our second and will probably get another when the current one wears out. Funny how I've gone from being a "must change every two years " to a let's see how long it will last, owner.
I am still waiting to swap my instruments around and Have bought a 3-in-one guage so as to be able to move the speedo to the left and be able to see it. As for the tree, I like that too-was it from uncle M?
Yes - one of Uncle M's best!! SWMBO now has a Skoda roomster and daughter has taken the Fabia. Fabia is now 10yrs old has had 3 kids learn to drive in it and not one rattle!! Brilliant.
