148 mile round trip to see those fine people at Allon White for annual service & MOT. Damp run down. Drove through a torrential cloud burst on the way back. Next time we get a dry day, I know how I will be spending a couple of hours!

Whilst they had the car, I took their loan car to Old Warden and spent a very happy few hours wandering around the hangers.

Four escapees from the Great Escape Group called in at Krazy Horse Bury St Edmunds for a drool over the highly polished machines on display.

Including a seriously expensive MidSummer and a very tidy replica Shelsey Cobra.

The lunch prior at the nearby Three Kings pub at Fornham all Saints was good as well.

Cheating a bit, as this post is a bit of a mix of driving and maintenance.. and it was yesterday and not today...!

Things are just so different in today`s world, little point in trekking 10 miles or so to Halfords in search of a suitable oil and filter for the old Mog, as they will not have anything suitable in stock, just so much simpler to go on to Amazon, order the oil and filter and it turns up at my door the next day....Hmm..?

Thus in terms of what did I do to my Morgan yesterday, I gave it an oil and filter change, also greased the suspension a couple of tasks which have been in the planning for a while.. Seems like we have been rained in for a while so I was waiting for a dry day to arrive, and yesterday was the first in a while. I have a local short route of circa 28 miles, that I make use of in the winter months just to stop electro mechanical aspects of my vehicles from forgetting what their function might be, and the chance of them converting a period of inactivity into inability, risking failure to operate as they should.. Dependant on weather and the risk of salt on the roads, ideally I try to get out to give them a bit of exercise at least once within circa 6 weeks if not less.

My old Mog has proven to be far less at risk to lay up related issues than more modern machinery, and less so as it is permanently attached to a Cetek float charger.. left in gear and with the handbrake off, to minimise the chance of brake shoes attempts to be as one with the drums. No thoughts of brake fluid changes and the risks related to shearing bleed nipples, as my Mog`s brake system is filled with DOT 5. A couple of tyres loose pressure over the period of a month or so, other than that not much else over the 20 years or more I have been it`s custodian..

I set out to warm the oil on a somewhat cooler and more importantly dry day than has been the norm for a few weeks or more. There is one point on the outbound leg of my escape routing where on turning a tight corner the view opens out wide for miles, and it was a treat to my old eyes to see the snow caps on the hills in the Trossachs and beyond. With more distant and much favoured roads calling, it was a bit of a struggle to turn off to alter direction on to my shorter loop and head for home, as opposed to my more usual circa 80 mile round trip... Sigh, but alternative arrangements determined otherwise..Pity.

Guess the main thing was that I can still manage to crawl under, perform the oil change and grease the suspension too, the more difficult aspect as many may well have sympathy with, is getting back out from under and up on to my feet...(-:
