I think the E10 issue was more to do with the Ethanol being incompatible with rubber and plastics used on cars this age. I only use E5 which not every service station supplies unfortunately.

Sadly, I think e5 will go the way of leaded 4 *. Price differential will greatly increase, petrol station suppliers will diminish due to lack of demand and then it’s finally goodbye to e5. (by which time we’ll have e15 to contend with).

There is no official cutoff date after which E5 petrol will become unavailable in the UK. When E10 petrol was introduced as the standard grade in September 2021, the government committed to a "protection grade" of E5 remaining available in the higher-octane 'super' unleaded form for at least five years.
This means E5 will continue to be available at most larger filling stations until at least September 2026, when the situation is scheduled for review.

I have copied this from an Allon White webpage, and I think they in turn got it from MMC. Some of you will probably recall seeing it at the time as several dealers issued the same document. It was published around the time that e10 was introduced. To be fair, guidance coming from the government was sketchy in the case of Rover, on the basis that as the company no longer existed it was not possible to get definitive guidance. Note that the first part refers specifically to engines and the second part to fuel system such as pipes etc. Because Rover were not able to be consulted maybe the gov. erred on the safe side…who knows?
MORGAN ENGINE COMPATIBILITY BMW engines are E10 fuel compliant. Ford engines manufactured from 1992 are E10 compliant. Rover V8 engines manufactured from 1996 are E10 compliant. Four-cylinder Rover engines are not E10 compliant. Engines with carburettors are not E10 compliant.
VEHICLE FUEL SYSTEM COMPATIBILITY CX generation vehicles are E10 compliant. All metal fuel tanks and rigid fuel pipes, steel or aluminium, are E10 compliant. Rigid plastic fuel pipes used on BMW engine models are E10 compliant. Rubber fuel pipes, pre CX, are not E10 compliant and rubber fuel lines and seals should be monitored for deterioration. Morgan recommend changing rubber fuel lines to Viton or Viton lined rubber (or other similar ethanol tolerant materials).

MORGAN ENGINE COMPATIBILITY Engines with carburettors are not E10 compliant. I beg to differ! I run all my carb engined vehicles on E10 and have not noticed any issues. I have replaced all tank to carb hoses for ethanol resistant, but carbs are standard.

TBM, apparently Porsche have declared that no air cooled Porsches are suited to running on E10, that and the market value of air cooled at the time I was thinking of getting back into Porsche ownership caused me to go water cooled, which in some ways I still wonder if I made the right decision, as air cooled more suit my Luddite tendencies.. and all the more so when it seems there are air cooled owners who have no option but to run on E10 and report no obvious issues.. Though obviously that is not in any way proof positive.
From a dull memory I think I read where Ferrari were able to supply plastic floats for some of their carb setups to replace the brass floats, that were perhaps presenting issues where E10 was in use..? Also thought I read somewhere that E10 was to be or perhaps currently is, the only petrol available in the EU..?
I too replaced the engine bay flexy fuel lines on my carb fed +8, with SAE J30 R6 pipe, in the hope of avoiding modern fuel issues. Though having typed that I use only premium fuel in my +8. When Kevin rebuilt the Mog circa Y2K, he used braided flexible fuel line from the tank to the engine bay, and at a time before there was any mention of possible E10 issues... Fortunately I have a plastic in-line fuel filter as standard, within which the filter element is visible and I keep a close eye on, to date no signs of discolouration or debris from the make up of the fuel line...
I suspect that time/mileage covered may well be part of the possible issues for older vehicles using E10...?
And like others I suspect the issues Sven is unfortunately attempting to resolve, seems unlikely to be E10 related...

I suspect that time/mileage covered may well be part of the possible issues for older vehicles using E10...? I would seriously check that braided line - ethanol can cause cracks and splits in the rubber - these would be hidden by the braid and probably not picked up by the filter. Personally I would replace it with some 8mm 5/16 copper pipe or equivalent, suitably clipped. So far I've done 30K + in both the Mog and MG - I think the more frequently you use, the less problems you have with E10.

My 2011 4/4 engine may be compliant, but the rest of the pipes, well who knows. I have already changed a couple of hoses from the fuel tank which were showing the cracks referred to by TBM. Not surprising as they were not fuel compliant pipes anyway. Think Morgan just grab what's. to hand

Sorry if it is in the thread but have you checked the ignition leads. How old are they?
