Has anyone invested in a car lift suitable for a classic type Morgan? I like the idea of raising the car off the ground hydraulically to give me better access to the underneath for routine maintenance. It seems as I've got older the car has got lower! I've seen them on ebay for about £1000 but not sure if they will work with the Morgan chassis. I could always ring the suppliers but thought I'd see if anyone on here had any first hand experience which could assist others. Many thanks. Paul
I have a tilt lift which raises the whole car about a metre, you can then tilt whichever end you wish so as to get it to working height. I find it brilliant as I do not have the garage ceiling height to allow the installation of a full garage lift. Cost about £350

Most dealers now use 2 post lifts so take a hint from there.
There are lifts coming in from China that are basically unsafe and if it seems too good to be true. Around £1,000 for a two post lift is probably too good to be true. Nearer say £2k fitted
A two post lift needs around 8" depth of concrete while a four poster should have around 6" depth of concrete.
A person is say 1.7 to 1.8 mtrs high and a FWD is say about 1.8 mm high plus say 150 mm for lighting so you need a space under the roof trusses of 3.7m. Add 150mm for a four poster as you have to allow for the platform.
While a Morgan classic is say 1.3m high it seems a bit daft to spend all that dosh and not be able to lift most types of car. OK not a Landrover with a roofrack that needs nearer 4 mtrs below the trusses.
You need a 20 amp D rated breaker in your consumer unit and say a 6mm sq three core aroured cable out to the garage.
I have got planning permession to extend my 6m x 6m normal height garage with a 6m x 7m extension which has circa 3.8 mtr clearance so nearly 5m high at the ridge. Cost all in circa £15k.
Sounds a bit daft but that is the reality if you want a full size lift.
I was at the Classic Car show and looked on the Strongmantools stand but was less than impressed with trying to get under a 1 mtr clearance lift.
Watty, There's a thread that started on 16/2/11 about this. I'm well pleased with my Strongman even though I'm limited to about 1.5 metres lift by the roof beams, but I also wanted the extra storage. I can work under the car on a small stool no problem, beats lying on the floor.

Yes on the Strongman stand these four posters were head and shoulders better than their 1 mtr lif lifts.
The only thing you have to decide on here do you want the easy drive on ability of a four poster but less good for access to underneath the car and for wheel / suspension work. Less of a floor slab spec.
Or the better underneath access but more problematic lifting of a two post especally for older cars. But most Morgan dealers are using two posters now although the advice I was given was buy both but who has that size of garage!!!!!!
