OK, OK pushing my luck here as Saturday night is some way off, but having drifted off into ELO mood, I thought to post this one, which I suspect if it can not cause you to smile tap a finger or foot, then you may just not be human....?

Perhaps even a bot might feel a disturbance in it`s digits..?

George, thank you for that lovely spot of joyfulness on a very dreary day down here.

Whilst listening to Caroline this track popped up which of course I remembered well, at the time it was treated with humour but I wonder if it would be released in our wokeland we find ourselves inhabiting. with far too many folk taking life too seriously.

Saw the Jess Gillam ensemble in York last night and I was blown away what a performer. and to think a lot of schools and universities are closing their music departments. Shame on them.

Don't blame the schools. Music is still compulsory for KS3 (Years 7 to 9). However, in 2011 the Govt introduced the EBACC suite of qualifications which are a set of performance measures that schools are graded on. This suite of subjects overlooked subjects such as Art, Music and Drama, so with ever decreasing budgets schools were forced to focus on those subjects under the EBACC wing. Since 2011 there has been a dramatic decrease in students studying Music GCSE, with the obvious knock affects at A Level and University. I think only 5000 students took Music A level in the last year or so.

As a result, Music is becoming restricted to private schools, who are not constrained by the EBACC and can offer proper facilities and tutoring. Arts Council England have said that children from low income families now have virtually no chance of becoming a professional musician.

Unfortunately I don't see much change under the current Government. The EBACC needs scrapping - there is no 'one size fits all' when it comes to education,

We've just been talking to a mother whose child has taken part in our local music festival (competitive with a small c) She plays the piano exceedingly well. Mother was telling us that her daughter lacked confidence but was encouraged to take part a couple of years ago and how much her confidence has been improved by playing to an audience.
I'm an engineer so know how important maths and the sciences are but am also aware that music and drama are so important for a child's confidence.
I am also aware that we need good encouraging teachers.

I just wish politicians wouldn't keep interfering with education. We make bright people undergo professional training to be a teacher and then some numptie who haas most likely never been in front of a classroom tells them what to teach and, sometimes, how to teach it.

Speaking to a school head a few years ago, his biggest dread was a change of government.
