Here is a review of a wrapped version of the pre production prototype that Jaguar has created from the Project 00 concept car that received "mixed" reactions.

Chris Cropley did a review today in Autocar, after having been taken round Gaydon in one - the view on performance, refinement and ride and handling was very good.

With a 120kWhr battery they are stating a 400 mile range, 0-60 in circa 3 sec, so it is going to move OK - but is very long at 5.4m long

I can't quite make my mind up as to whether the launch of the Type 00 was a complete PR disaster or brilliant in view of the amount of attention it created - however I suspect that when the actual 4 door car can be seen in more normal colours it will prove to be an attractive alternative to a Porsche Taycan or Audi E-tron GT

Do they include a headmask with vision slots so you can hide your face.

Or do you get the option to leave the dazzle camoflage covering on, assuming thats not one of the colour options?

Like this. Mind you, at least this one has a radiator grille.

As a long time fan and owner, I really do hope that this is a success for the company as they obviously provide jobs for many people, however have they already missed the boat with the big German companies backing away from expensive electric vehicles due to buyer pressure i.e nobody is buying them, even Fiat in Italy have had to re introduce a petrol powered 500 as the factory making the electric ones was at a standstill.

Long, low and unapologetically dramatic, the new four-door GT has the proportions Jaguar has always leaned on when it wants to make a point. It’s longer than a Range Rover, lower than an F-TYPE, and has real presence without apology. Under the skin sits an all-new Jaguar Electric Architecture, developed solely for the brand’s electric future, with a tri-motor layout, torque vectoring, rear-wheel steering and four-corner air suspension.

I was taken out on the dummy ‘motorway’ and the bumpy real-world test circuits at Gaydon by development engineer Phil Burford. I suddenly became aware that our softly spoken conversation and relaxed enjoyment of the car’s surroundings were all happening at over 150 miles per hour! Apart from some wind bouncing off the camouflage lumps still attached to the car, it was utterly silent, no tyre noise, no bumps, no vibration – just effortless speed.

I’ve been in cars of nearly 1000 BHP before and at similar speeds, but you are usually shouting into an intercom, wrapped in Nomex and trying not to think of how quickly things can go wrong. Not with this Jaguar, though – the thing defies the laws of both physics and acoustics!

What surprised me most was how finished the car already feels. It’s rare to get access to a prototype this early. One of the important factors of the Grace, Space and Pace mantra was to deliver impressive performance alongside a silky-smooth ride. This is where the new Jaguar takes things to levels I have never experienced in any performance car.

Is it still a commercial risk? Undeniably. Jaguar is choosing fewer customers, not more, and doubling down on an all-electric strategy at a time when others are hedging. But after experiencing this car in motion, it’s clear this isn’t guesswork.

I hope they do recover the business.

My satire is because I see the old/new sales proposition as a real challenge and I don't think this feels like the answer. I am guessing they spent months clinicing this thing before hitting the commit button.

I say the below as a suggestion from my point of view and accept correction and alternatives with respect.
Lets face it I am an Aero owner, I am not even common-sense adjacent, twice.

Younger suspects/prospects/customers do not have the luxury of knowing how great Jag's were, always ahead of their time in the old days.
Presenting them with a mobile concrete bunker means they have to approach it as a totally new thing and so it has no benefit from the past. It must stand competition against everything but it carries a super-premium price tag. Hmmmmm. No value derived from the brand, you may as well label it Tonka, it seems a more natural match and interest? I should be in marketing?

Older customers like us are less likely to be in the market for a £140k 150mph mobile land tank so I appreciate they need to do something new.
China is out producing and undercutting most european stuff right now, god save people getting parts now and in five years?
China is giving us all "New Brands" like Jacooooo and Cheesey which have no back story, a bit like the "new jAAg", but cheap, new, here and now.
Quite "Insta" and new generation but at risk of burning brightly for a short time with our expectations of the old guard.

So if I am an affluent young driver looking for something nice does the "new jAAg" bring additional benefit?
History or styling linkage I can see the value of?
Can he/she/it/they do 150mph in silence on our roads today, just daft and irrelevant? (how long does a BEV range last at 150mph?)

What could they do to provide some cool to provide value add using the history?
Use a common platform to deliver a car looking like the XJ Series 2 Coupe? Such a beautiful cool shape. It uses their USP of British, Charm, Style.
Not like the historic burp that gave us the X-Type, a solid Mondeo development but not life changing as a differentiator for Jag.
If I look at the David Brown, Singer, Kymera 037, even the Renault 4-5 revival?

I look at some of the wild little Japanese cars like the old S-type Mitsuoka clone and wonder if there is a space for a minature modern, like the Aston/Toyota IQ. They were not volume or successful but I wonder if the world has changed. A smaller car for the city use we see these days. Mini has been successful for BMW?

Given people seem to have gone SUV-tastic and they have LR/RR to cover that base an F-Type just seems to canibalise their own business?

I see the same issue in Alfa, Lancia and others.

It just feels like it is an answer looking for a question.

The unanswered question for me is simple 'WHY?'

Where it does find a customer, it will be interesting to see how the residuals hold up. Could find some bargains in the not too distant future........much will depend on how outlandish colour schemes are applied to the car. LIke Rolls Royce , Bentley and the likes of Morgan I've seen some great customer selected colour combinations and then a few I wouldn't touch with a barge pole.There is paraffin pink 'Rosso Tiziano' metallic GDI that has been sitting in the various showrooms for some time now, still looking for an new owner,so I'm not the only one that finds it a little too much for my tastes.

There’s an advantage to electric cars which never seems to get a mention, new electric cars are 100% tax deductible for U.k. businesses including self employed and partnerships. Obviously you can only save the money if you can earn it first and then some, Theres a point where income tax is 48% and also less £12750.00 free pay allowance, this makes a purchase like this effectively better than half the price of engine driven cars. It’s been like this for a while but it wouldn’t be the best strategy for a global brand to make a product solely dependent on this market.

Trying to think of a mainstream premium all electric brand. Lotus and Polestar lose shedloads and brands like Bentley that were on an EV pathway have delayed due to lack of customer demand, but have that option.

Maybe Jag will find a niche - hope so.
