As a long term fan of Porsche, when I tripped over this 20 min vid I thought to post it and ask the question, Why no one (that i know of) performs similar surgery on Morgans. ? Though it seems the MMC might just have similar thinking in mind..?
The vid lacks a degree of watchability, but for me the subject matter maintained my interest..
Porsche............. probably........... There's no such thing as a cheap Porsche any more, an Emory 356 would be $$$$$$$$$...!!!! Affordable fun motoring....... £20-£30k, lightweight, simple.......... a 4/4........!😆 🤷🏻♂️ So yes.... and....no...... Money no object........both...
Apologies for the somewhat click bait heading, however I find it rather interesting the way the market values both financially and in terms of interest relative to both Marques is so very different.
I guess there were Morgan enthusiasts in business who took things a tad further, thinking of Rob Wells and others, but none to the extent that independent businesses took Porsche to where it seems to have been for quite a few years now... Though having typed that the MMC went some way in the Midsummer programme, which seemed to ruffle some feathers, but credit to them for that.
In terms of developing air cooled Porsches to meet modern-day expectations in the UK, it seems companies the likes of Rennsport seem to have built up a good business model...
Though having typed that, taking the cost difference right out of the equation I would not swap my old +8 for a 356, or even a an air cooled REAL 911..(-: There was a time a few years back when I thought to use whatever I could sell my +8 for to get me back into an air cooled 911, but fortunately the combination of a half hearted attempt at marketing it, and that I really dislike selling cars, resulted in me forgetting that idea totally...(-:
There is a second part to the 356 vid that I posted, but the vid production does not improve, although it provides more of an insight to the way they do things..
If you might have interest as to the way Rennsport do their thing :-
To be quite honest, when it comes to travelling at high speed and exploiting the cars performance to the full, then I'd prefer to be surrounded by Porsche engineering than Morgan engineering. Whilst both marques have had their fair share of reliability issues over the years, I'd prefer the benefit of massive Porche development budget wrapped around me. Morgan achieves amazing products with quite finite budgets, and in certain areas it shows.
I really like my CX but I wouldn't drive it flat out whereas my Porsche Turbo cabriolet I had roof down flat out at over 165 mph without a second thought. I might have just been kidding myself or just didn't even consider the consequences if I happen to get it wrong.or out of shape.and the Porsche had a well known handling issue when the turbo spooled up.Kind of like the P6.

It may be the model which is more style than substance but my ideal Porsche would be the Targa, wouldn’t care about the perfomance but it would need to be an actual colour, bright interior, silver hoop and silver or gold wheels.. probably unsellable spec😂 It all goes to show what a great product a Morgan is, vintage, retro and new all at once, lots to pick from and relatively affordable.
I went from my Guards Red 997 Carerra which was plenty quick enough for me, to a new Plus 4 ten years ago. Still love 911s, and as a practical car they win(almost) hands down over the Morgan, but the Morgan is, for me, more fun. And I like that.

John, I don`t think James Dean might have disagreed with your comments re safety at speed, and less so in a Porsche 356..though I suspect relativity plays a part...? When I thought to buy back into Porsche some years back, my good lady expressed something similar to your thinking, in her case thinking was that an ageing motoring enthusiast such as I, might be better off in a tin top, than roaring around scaring sheep(and myself) in my old Mog...(-:
As for flat driving out, even in the 82 3litre 204 HP SC I owned way back when, was not something I ever attempted, though I suspect on quite a few occasions I did engage in pedal to the metal in short bursts, mostly on track though. As for today, There seems little doubt that the 991 along with so many other modern tin tops, seem likely to be a much safer structure to have an accident in than my former 911 SC.
Today, feeling most fortunate that I can still enjoy my old Mog on interesting roads hereabouts... (-:
