The new best of both worlds Monty inlet setup !

[Linked Image]

Here we have Kawasaki ZXR400 motorcycle drive by wire (DBW) individual throttle bodies with integeral injectors and DBW throttle motor mounted on my long runner Fusion Fabrications inlet manifold. My EMU Black ECU only starts to open the additional four throttle butterflys when the single throttle TPS reaches 75%, engine speed is over 4,500rpm, and finally when the MAP sensor indicates engine load is over 80%.

Under all but agressive driving conditions the system operates just as it always did with the sigle throttle body long runner arrangement producing the excellent low end and mid range torque I've enjoyed since fitting the Fusion Fabrications inlet, but it now also becomes a hybrid single throttle & individual throttle body setup to give maximum power at higher rpm and larger throttle openings under load.

The 3D ECU calibration ensures the four additional drive by wire buttterflys only open when all the three sensor input rules are met, the activation of the second set of injectors (staged injection) is configured in such a way as to exactly match the extra air being delivered through the ITBs ensuring best power is delivered all the way to 7,300rpm where the soft rev limiter pulls ignition timing to ensure the engine never exceeds an absolute unloaded maximum of 7,500rpm, at which point the hard fuel cut is triggered for failsafe engine protection.

Basiscally the setup operates as a dynamic variable length inlet system with staged injection, under normal driving and modest acceleration events theres no ITB or staged injection activation at all, so it's functioning exactly as it was delivering all the torque produced by the excellent long runner Fusion Fabrications inlet. However, give Monty the beans and it becomes a hybrid single throttle & individual throttle bodies setup to give maximum power at higher rpm and throttle openings when Monty's Duratec clearly benefits from more air and fuel delivered through super short runners.

Ahhhhhhh.............. the old ZXR400 staged injection, DBW, dynamic variable length inlet system......................🤯🤯😂

It sound humongously complicated....... but it looks great.....!!!
I bet it sounds good and it'll go like stink...!!

Exactly Julian, you've got it mate laugh

It's nothing more complex than your basic old skool use of long runners for low end and mid range grunt, but with a set of post 4,500rpm activated ITBs on shorter runners to maximise volumetric efficiency at the top end.

The addition four mouths to feed is really no different to when we ran a twin barrel Holly with vacuum secondaries, it's just in this case the secondaries are now opening on ECU instruction (DBW), rather than vacuum holding them shut before snapping open at wide open throttle as the manifold transitions to atmospheric pressure.

Finally, the staged injection element is no more complex than what we were doing with Sierra Cosworths back in the day wink

The moral of the story for all three stratergies being.... "There's Actually Nothing New Under The Sun"!

TBH, it's all been done before, but perhaps just never all three elements combined on one engine thumbs

And certainly not on a car that's made of wood rofl
