Despite (in previous threads) MMC stating that the open diff was preferred as giving a more progressive character, quote: "When testing the Plus Four and Plus Six with our and BMW’s chassis development engineers, we had cars fitted with both LSD’s and open differentials. There was debate at the time as to whether the LSD improved the drive of the higher power Plus Six, but the consensus was that all preferred the more progressive character of the open diff. This was even more the case for the Plus Four. We haven’t fitted an LSD to any customer cars, and are not sure it would deliver any real-world benefit"

I know that these are now fitted as an option to the Supersport. So what really changed that made the LSD a good option? The 10% increase in stiffness of the CXV chassis compared to the CX perhaps? Or is the LSD only a good option if the dynamic handling pack is specified?

I'd be interested in looking at a retrofit of a Quaife differential on my P6, seems to be the best of both worlds, and should be an easy replacement given that the existing diff is said to be a BMW item.

"The Quaife ATB Helical LSD differential has many benefits over a standard open differential, including maximising traction and minimizing wheel spin, eliminating torque steer and snatching."

In conjunction with the existing ESC on my P6, I'd have thought this would further improve safety. What are your thoughts?

I am just looking to fit an LSD to my Plus Four racecar. Once complete and tested we will be offering this as a aftermarket option for both Four and Six i will keep you posted as it needs to be before March when the season starts.

Yes please do. I would immediately purchase one. I plan to do the same thing with my plus four manual and maybe if possible change the final drive gear ratio. What name does your company have?

I don't need or use either.... I don't drive 'sportingly' enough to need the diff and drugs have never been my thing....!!! I don't even take asprin....😂

I've had the rear wheels let go twice around 55 mph in third gear on my Roadster whilst accelerating after a roundabout, on each occasion when roads were just slightly damp. Whilst a noticeable twitch I was surprised how well it stayed within lane which I attribute to the factory fit LSD. After the second occasion I brought forward the planned change to new tyres.

Could it be because so many Plus sixes let go at the rear end at least one I know of going from 30 mph to 40 mph on a damp road causing 2 serious injuries.

I'm happy enough with the ESC and open diff, and wouldn't want a direct swap to a full LSD, but the Quaife seems like a sweet spot between open and full LSD.

I will be fitting it to the Williams Automobiles Plus Four racecar. Its a genuine BMW M performance LSD that gets rave reviews on 1 & 2 series BMWs and it is what is offered in the Supersport from factory.
I have looked at the Quaife option but having to remove the diff and send it off to be repackaged is a pain

I've heard that a limited-slip differential is much noisier? Is that true?
What's the point of installing this type of equipment if I don't plan on doing any track days? Does it offer any advantage for normal road use?
