Hi,

Just browsing and thought this may be interesting to anyone looking for a Plus 8

Looks like the Restoring Classics spin off have had it restored and it's up for sale early Feb. The TV show always does a good job with its restorations and rarely gets its money back, so an excellent buy for someone.

For MoT / mileage history, see https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/results?registration=v80art&checkRecalls=true .
Click on "MoT History" and "show".

Interesting video.
Shows the risk of buying from online auction if not able to view car.
Would still be a great car after the work carried out by Rutters.

Plenty of obvious rust in the usual places. I worry all that new underseal hides some horrors.

Could always phone Melvyn and get his opinion.

I make no comment but caveat emptor is always good advice.

I would certainly avoid promoting a vehicle that I had never seen in the metal or driven. However given the list of parts replaced or attended to I might hope that Melvyn might not have put so much effort into the +8 unless he considered the it was a foundation worth building upon....

I thought Mathewson`s thinking on harsh ride was spot on relative to expectations most folk seem likely to hold compared to one`s average modernday mundanemobiles, which I doubt any Trad could come near to achieving, regardless of how much one spent on suspension kit.

Regardless of the effort and money spent to bring this +8 to it`s present condition it is not a new car, and when built Morgan`s were expected to have inbuilt ...err...foibles, which might just require a bit of new customer involvement.... Or have I got that entirely wrong...?

The car hasn't been used at all in the last 5 years, has hardly been used that much over the last 15 years or so, so whilst it has had a recommissioning heavy service, I would get things like the electrics fully tested, although it looks like they have done some sorting of the front electrics. It's got a clean new MOT quite a clean MOT history without too many significant reasons for failures in the past.

I would get ahold of the TV episode when they originally bought it (if released) and then recommissioned it and listen to the Matheson's assessment of it then and what faults were found subsequently and check out what they found and did. I personally wouldn't buy a car at. auction without first seeing it. It might also be worth talking to Melvyn at Rutters and get their assessment of the car.
