The mention of Bonesie reminded me he's not posted for a long time & I think was considering selling the Mog...wonder how he's doing as he used to post some photos and descriptions of interesting projects

I ruined my gear knob through wearing a watch with a metal strap. Unbeknown to me, each time I reached across to the hand brake, it was putting scratches on the knob. By the time I realised, it was too late and I had to replace the knob.

He doesn't have any watches for sale, hope he is ok.

I am amazed to see a mention of Beuche Girod (pronounced Boogeroh) from MorganMike earlier in the thread. A luxury watch brand from that well known watch making town of Watford Fantastic quality watches, using Piguet movements customised in house. Roy King owned the company and "The Roy King" was their top of the range watch and not cheap. I seriously doubt many watch enthusiasts are even aware of their existence, but they are rare and collectable, especially with gold prices at an all time high. I have a couple of beautiful 9ct ladies watches that my wife never wears, but sadly I don't have a men's example in my collection. Well done to MorganMike.

I've always had a 'nice' watch..... well, as soon as could afford one......
I've always had a thing for Omega...... probably because my Dad had one.... it was the only 'thing' I ever wanted. He gave it to me before he died. I'll keep it forever.
I've had loads of Omegas.....seamasters, planet oceans, moonwatches, aqua terra's....🤦🏻‍♂️

Rolex.............🤷🏻‍♂️ I've had loads of them......Subs, Gmt's, Daytonas, datejust, explorer, explorer 2's......

but..................

I've just sold my sub................... every hoodie wearing, scumbag, wanna-be gangster with his mum's carving knife up his sleeve recognises it from 20 feet away.....
It had become a liability...... I didn't feel safe wearing it.🤷🏻‍♂️

Happy now to wear an under the radar seamaster 300 professional on a rubber strap....... nice watch, dressy enough, robust enough..... not a target for scumbags.....!!!!

I agree, Subs, GMTs and Daytonas are instantly recognisable. However, I'm not sure I agree that Omegas are under the radar; unfortunately, with new Seamaster 300s costing £5k+, the undesirables know exactly what they are and the value. I know at least two people who have lost them to theft in London. I guess it boils down to degrees but I'd suggest that whilst it is behind Rolex in terms of 'desirability to thieves', Omega is still on their shopping list.

In later years, I tend to enjoy vintage watches far more than their modern counterparts. To most, it is just an old watch and goes unnoticed and, in my humble opinion, you can wear vintage Omega, Heuer and many of the niche brands far more comfortably than a modern counterpart. Possibly similar to the feeling that a Morgan is less of an obvious statement of wealth than a modern Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc? Whilst some new Morgans are not far off the price of a nearly new 'prestige sports car', I can't help but feel that the majority of the public have no idea of what they are worth and don't necessarily automatically equate them with an exorbitant financial value. Again, a vintage Rolex Sub is still a Rolex sub but a most people have no idea of the value of a Heuer Autavia or Omega Seamaster 'Jedi' , etc.

Luckily we dont have those issues -yet. Whilst on a Morgan run I like to wear my CW Morgan C3 -which being quartz is deadly accurate, I have a Seamaster professional which people do notice, this summer I am wearing a CW trident in the bright reef colours and I really like it . Quite attracted to a bronze watch being a nautical type -it seems the CW ones are a bit big for my wrist .

I unfortunately agree with you, Julian.
It's risky to wear certain watch models in several capital cities, especially Paris and the French Riviera in the south of France...

However, there are some very exclusive and discreet brands :

I only need the one from Smiths, which is built into the dashboard.
