New year sail

1st sunny day this year and calm seas, a rare combination and ideal for a boat trip.
Some spectacular sights from Bullers of Buchan to the Ythan estuary.

Colder than it looks, sea temp is 5 deg, air temp was 2-4 deg, I still had ice on my drive. Air humidity was low though and thats what makes the best of days round here. The pink granite is surprisingly warm to touch in the sun, everything else is a trick of the light, Baltic cold😃
I didn’t used to feel the cold but I’m increasingly finding it hard to keep my hands warm, gloves delay the effect but once it takes hold there’s no reversing it without a good heat up.

Looks great Ewan ... I spent the wondeful bonus sunny day on a bracing snowy walk round the woods and local environs ... and catching up with some things I'd put off til "it stops raining" which have consequently sat for the last 5 weeks! 🙂 ... this corner looks good from the sea.

K

To the north today, Buchanhaven harbour but not by boat.

Creel boatman was having a break from repairing creels, wanted a sit in the car, had a good laugh at himself trying to get back out!😂

Great pics. Ewan, thanks for posting.

Your Story and pic of the fisherman reminded me of visiting Pompeii circa 2005, and getting their early before the site of the ancient city opened, hoping to find a reasonable place to park the old +8, when a bus driver approached, he only spoke Italian, and we only spoke English, but he pulled a loose-leaf book of pictures of cars he had obviously owned, thus language was no longer a barrier ..(-: Of course he wanted to see under the bonnet and was a picture of happiness sitting behind the wheel... (-:

Jeez, I can`t remember the names of half the guys I worked with before I retired circa 10 years ago, his name was Tartoro Alfonso ..(-:

Thank you, that must have felt so damn cold out to sea, somehow if I go offshore with a friend it feels off the scale out to sea. I have no logic to back this up but it gets right into you, I happily drove back (topless @ no side screens) from Cambridge overnight in the 4/4 Sport and stopped to put my gloves on at Stonehenge and the phone said it was -4C so zero logic. Mind the guy who formatted briefly in a bright orange XK120 before disappearing into the horizon (I was cruising at 90) had Brooklands screens and full skull fitting leather helmet and goggles and that stupid grin we all don in happy mode.

Your coastline is way more interesting than ours down here.

On the cold hands thing, late father always flew Tigers (instructing post war) with white silk gloves beneath his lined leather one's.
Based on this Heather with Reinauds I ebayed her with a couple of pairs of them and they help a little, maybe worth a try out.

p.s. Beautiful shot of the character in your car.

I find it impossile to size your car, so how does it dimension compared to your Anniversary or Defender pse.

This model hides its better than the front engined Ferrari, it’s a lot longer and wider the Morgan and yet lower, the interior is small for the size of it though, so not ideal for bulky built drivers with big bellies, some of those XXL YouTubers look like a sofa on roof rack when they test these things. 😁 My fisherman friend is about a foot shorter than me but he fairly filled up the seat.
