Two articles in the press today regards Insurance Companies refusing claims makes me doubt that I shall ever travel abroad again.
Apparently one quarter of all claims are refused.
Crucially the filling in of the forms must be scrutinised with the utmost care and the scores of pages of terms and conditions are there to protect the Company above the needs of the insured (uninsured).

My sister-in-law has a possible heart issue, which is waiting to be investigated. Meanwhile, they are due to go on holiday in May (booked some time ago, before the possible heart issue arose) and the existing travel insurance is due for renewal. The company refused to renew, even refused to quote. I think she needs to check the 'small print': if the expiring policy pays out based on when the issue first came to light then she should have a claim against that policy in the event the holiday has to be cancelled; if it's a claims made basis, then she's got a problem which is not easily resolved.

It’s a worry when you get older but had a good experience a couple of weeks back.
In Madrid for food tasting for sons forthcoming wedding but had decided we would stay on a few extra days in Seville. Had booked the fast train but after the horrible Spanish rail crash with many fatalities, the train company cancelled all trains, to check all track. Caused travel chaos and as we booked to fly home from Seville, just could not get there.
Bought much dearer flights back from Madrid and Saga dealt with it super quickly and returned the new flight money in days …..Impressed.
