Nestor, I have the same mirrors on a classic Mini, just be aware that the quality is a bit basic and I had to swop the lenses for convex as the view with flat glass was next to useless

Do they work OK with the convex? I'd like bullet/torpedo mirrors on the MG but the common consensus is they're next to useless. If convex glass improves I may bite the bullet!

Yes they work quite well, had to add a spacer because they are bolted through the sliding side windows (because didn't want to drill the doors)

If I understand correctly, this mirror support uses the car's existing fixing point, unlike the double fixing point in the original picture?
If so, perhaps 2mm matl might not afford sufficient stiffness in one plane once the mirror mass is attached. You might end up with some annoying resinances/movement and a blurry view? Doubling the thickness might help?

Testing the cardboard template :

1/ I had to modify the base of the mirror bracket to fit around the side screens.
2/ The mirror bracket is too long; I'm going to shorten it by at least 3 cm (see photo below) :

I know you've done the Auto CAD but are you sure that this will actually work?


1.)Have a look at the competitors in the Morgan race series and ask yourself if they are using a similar arrangement and if not why not?

2.) The bracket needs to be attached to the body in at least two places to give it some rigidity. With the weight of the mirror on it its just going to act as a pendulum and at speeds above 60 mph, it will be vibrating so much as to be useless.

3.) Not sure where you are located but if the mount is made from 2mm plate, there's a Construction and Use or MoT issue as it will be considered a sharp edge likely to injure pedestrians. Possibly you could get away with a bit of clip on beading. Ditto the exposed threads for the mirror mount. Maybe a nut cap or something similar here?
