Hi guys I am really struggling to get my head around the cowl and grill setup have I got the wrong cowl and are there different types? Mine is to short and bonnet sits to low? Am I being thick?

Not much to go on there ... if you're doing a resto/build, is there any chance you have a lowline cowl mixed up with a highline body?

The cowl shape changed over time. And the 4 seater varies from the 2 seater. If the cowl is original it should work, but a replacement won't easily fit, because all cowls were tweaked for one car.

Nigel, yes a little more info on the car and possibly a picture or two might bring the solutions flooding in for you.

Some images of the issue when I bought mine 7 years ago as an unfinished project had no wings or cowl etc

Nigel ... as the cowl came separate from the car the chance of you having a mismatched cowl is definitely there ... where did you source the cowl and wings?

K

Ps ... entirely possible you have the cowl off a (much more common) 2 seater.

Not the clearest of pics, but I laid a straight cane across the tops of the wings at the cowl ... the height to the top of the centre of the cowl from the top of the wings was 7 inches (near enough) ... mine's a 1975 4 seater.

If the bonnets fit correctly at the bulkhead, the likely best solution is to have a bespoke cowl made up. Because any other used cowls may be as problematical.
