Any idea why AGM batteries are used - I believe they are for stop/start applications and had no idea one was fitted. Unable to drive the car for 3 months or so due to an operation so car wired up for maintenance and my charger kept indicating a fault after reaching 100% charge. Being oblivious to battery technology I had no idea the charger had to be changed to an AGM setting.
My bad, 72 years and still learning!
2024 Plus Four Auto A 2024 Mog is surely still under warranty ? Decent brands of batteries, eg Bosch are covered for 4, even 5 years for top spec

Yes but only if you buy it. When supplied on a new vehicle they generally only have a one year warranty. This reflects a lot of service parts that may be covered by that one year only cover.

Now I have the correct charger setting (AGM) the battery now appears ok. Issue was my ignorance not a battery fault.

Mark Baldwin from the factory phoned me this morning he apologised for not getting back to me sooner, Mark confirmed that Morgan will not be issuing a recall notice even though BMW and Toyota have I guess because of the low number of Plus Sixes that would be affected they don't need too. Mark told me mine is only the second Plus Six he knows with this problem. My car is well out of warranty so he suggested I contacted my local dealer, I said its a BMW part and I will get the part from there Mark ended the call abruptly. Looks like I should be paying the Morgan tax for BMW parts. If your Plus Six becomes difficult to start hot you will need to replace the starter motor, a small number of BMWs have caught fire due to the contacts in the starter motor fusing together and shorting out even when parked, so disconnect the battery when garaged.

There was a separate starter motor thread, and I posted this on 3rd April:
"I spoke with Mark Baldwin at MMC earlier today on a separate topic, but took the opportunity to ask him about the starter motor issue and whether any Plus Six cars could be affected. He said the issue does not impact the Plus Six and, in fact, of the 120 odd Plus Fours that are in the recall only a few of these were showing signs that they needed a replacement starter."
I would hope that the (in this case small) number of cars impacted would not influence a decision to issue a recall. The P4 recall is: We have a warranty campaign running to replace the starter motors on early Plus Four cars. These are cars built between May 2020 and February 2021. If your P6 was within this build period, it may well be worth speaking with a local BMW dealer to get their opinion. You may find that they give the same response as MMC, but if not it's something to go back to MMC with.

I will be taking my starter motor to BMW when I take it off to get the correct replacement and ask them to inspect it to see if it is one of the affected starter motors associated with thier recall notice.

The Gov.uk website has some useful information. I typed in the BMW Z4, which should have either the Plus Four B48 or the Plus Six B58 engine. What's interesting is that although the Z4 can have the Plus Four or Plus Six engine the Gov.uk recall info does not differentiate between the two. Perhaps the BMW dealers might do so once they investigate a specific case. Also we don't know which 'year' of engine was used by MMC, so although 2023 built Z4's are not affected, it's possible (though I suspect unlikely) that MMC's stock of engines for 2023 builds might include some BMW build year 2022 engines. Certainly concerning enough to ask some further questions.
2019 build
Replace the Starter Engine Motor - Reason for recall For affected vehicles there is a concern involving water ingress and corrosion to the starter motor for where a short circuit cannot be ruled out. It is strongly recommended to park the vehicle outdoors and not in the immediate vicinity of buildings until the repair has been carried out.
2020 build
As above, in addition ...
Replace the Starter Engine Motor - Reason for recall The Safety Recall relates to the engine starter motor. The fault relates to the RSW22 starter RWT (reinforced water tightness). It was found that with RWT starters an increased abrasion of the magnetic contact can cause the growth of deposits at the lowest point of the relay interior. This in turn may increase the relay contact resistance resulting in false starts or even causing short circuits and possibly a thermal reaction. In case of a short circuit the possibility of a thermal event cannot be excluded. This may happen while attempting to start the vehicle or while driving due to vibrations causing a short circuit due to moving deposits.
2021 build
As above, second issue only (RSW22 starter)
2022 build
As above, RSW22 starter
2023 build
No recalls
