The monthly newsletter from SwanMog reminded me that the original rad caps on cx cars are known to fail. The supplier is Tre. On my car the high pressure 28psi cap had already been changed to a Stent one but the low pressure 16 psi one was from Tre. I replaced both with new caps from Motorad who took over Stent. I went to Merlin Motor Sports. The low pressure cap showed signs of leakage with coolant in the drain tube and on the cap inside. The Motorad one has an additional rubber seal and is far better quality. The coolant was at 1/4 so I topped it up. It will be interesting to see how it goes.

The Stent ones with the safety lever are much better engineered

This cap seems to be available only in the USA. Is there a dealer in Europe thinking ?

I used Merlin Motor Sports. I would have thought any motor factor would stock standard rad caps though. http://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/s?search=Radiator+cap

Took the CX out for petrol as it is still sunny. The caps did fine but the bonnet was shat upon by a seagull, good luck I guess.

Eveything worked fine.

Bad Boy Classics (a UK supplier), sells a higher quality (polished stainless rather than printed aluminum) version of such safety caps made in New Zealand (from Fahler) that I use. https://bbclassics.co.uk/collections/rad-caps
They seem to be on sale today.

Motor Parts Direct have the 15Lb Borg and Beck BRC67 in stock at £5 :72. A straightforward cap with nothing fancy on it to fail they have served me well since 1969 ;-)

I fitted one last month to the Plus 8 as the original had got a defective seal caused by the spring getting tired so that is the end of an annoying loss of fluid without obvious explanation..

MPD and in particular the lovely Claire have never let me down with parts for the Plus 8 - the numberplate nonsense doesn't work.

All she needs is the engine type capacity and year and she is away, not restricted to engine, she has the whole drivetrain sorted in her head now, terrific service and loyalty discount.
I shall miss her as in May she is off to the pits to produce a little human for a while..

P.S. It took her 1Hr of trial and error out at the car to sort the fan belt out but spot on she was so I bought two. She has a Cooper S and does her own spannering as far as you can these days.
